WHY HAS JACKAL A LONG BLACK STRIPE ON HIS BACK?

The Sun, it is said¹, was² one day on earth³, and the men who were travelling⁴ saw⁵ him sitting by the wayside, but passed him without notice⁶. Jackal, however⁷, who came⁸ after them, and saw him also sitting, went to him and said, "Such⁹ a fine little child is left behind by the men." He then took¹⁰ Sun up, and put it into his awa-skin (on his back).
