[kjv] Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, (this is Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even unto Ethiopia, over an hundred and seven and twenty provinces:) [bbe] Now it came about in the days of Ahasuerus, (that Ahasuerus who was ruler of a hundred and twenty-seven divisions of the kingdom, from India as far as Ethiopia:) 1:2 [hgb] 亚 哈 随 鲁 王 在 书 珊 城 的 宫 登 基 。 [kjv] That in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the palace, [bbe] That in those days, when King Ahasuerus was ruling in Shushan, his strong town, 1:3 [hgb] 在 位 第 三 年 , 为 他 一 切 首 领 臣 仆 设 摆 筵 席 , 有 波 斯 和 玛 代 的 权 贵 , 就 是 各 省 的 贵 胄 与 首 领 , 在 他 面 前 。 [kjv] In the third year of his reign, he made a feast unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him: [bbe] In the third year of his rule he gave a feast to all his captains and his servants; and the captains of the army of Persia and Media, the great men and the rulers of the divisions of his kingdom, were present before him; 1:4 [hgb] 他 把 他 荣 耀 之 国 的 丰 富 , 和 他 美 好 威 严 的 尊 贵 , 给 他 们 看 了 许 多 日 , 就 是 一 百 八 十 日 。 [kjv] When he shewed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honour of his excellent majesty many days, even an hundred and fourscore days. [bbe] And for a long time, even a hundred and eighty days, he let them see all the wealth and the glory of his kingdom and the great power and honour which were his. [kjv] And when these days were expired, the king made a feast unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace; [bbe] And at the end of that time, the king gave a feast for all the people who were present in Shushan, the king's town, small as well as great, for seven days, in the outer square of the garden of the king's house. [kjv] Where were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble. [bbe] There were fair hangings of white and green and blue, fixed with cords of purple and the best linen to silver rings and pillars of polished stone: the seats were of gold and silver on a floor of red and white and yellow and black stone. [kjv] And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king. [bbe] And they gave them drink in gold vessels, every vessel being different, and wine of the kingdom, freely given by the king. [kjv] And the drinking was according to the law; none did compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure. [bbe] And the drinking was in keeping with the law; no one was forced: for the king had given orders to all the chief servants of his house to do as was pleasing to every man. [kjv] Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus. [bbe] And Vashti the queen gave a feast for the women in the house of King Ahasuerus. 1:10 [hgb] 第 七 日 , 亚 哈 随 鲁 王 饮 酒 , 心 中 快 乐 , 就 吩 咐 在 他 面 前 侍 立 的 七 个 太 监 , 米 户 幔 , 比 斯 他 , 哈 波 拿 , 比 革 他 , 亚 拔 他 , 西 达 , 甲 迦 , [kjv] On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king, [bbe] On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was glad with wine, he gave orders to Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven unsexed servants who were waiting before Ahasuerus the king, 1:11 [hgb] 请 王 后 瓦 实 提 头 戴 王 后 的 冠 冕 到 王 面 前 , 使 各 等 臣 民 看 她 的 美 貌 , 因 为 她 容 貌 甚 美 。 [kjv] To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on. [bbe] That Vashti the queen was to come before him, crowned with her crown, and let the people and the captains see her: for she was very beautiful. [kjv] But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him. [bbe] But when the servants gave her the king's order, Vashti the queen said she would not come: then the king was very angry, and his heart was burning with wrath. 王 问 他 们 说 , [kjv] Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment: [bbe] And the king said to the wise men, who had knowledge of the times, (for this was the king's way with all who were expert in law and in the giving of decisions: 1:14 [hgb] [kjv] And the next unto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king's face, and which sat the first in the kingdom;) [bbe] And second only to him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven rulers of Persia and Media, who were friends of the king, and had the first places in the kingdom:) 1:15 [hgb] 王 后 瓦 实 提 不 遵 太 监 所 传 的 王 命 , 照 例 应 当 怎 样 办 理 呢 ? [kjv] What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains? [bbe] What is to be done by law to Vashti the queen, because she has not done what King Ahasuerus, by his servants, gave her orders to do? 1:16 [hgb] 米 母 干 在 王 和 众 首 领 面 前 回 答 说 , 王 后 瓦 实 提 这 事 , 不 但 得 罪 王 , 并 且 有 害 于 王 各 省 的 臣 民 。 [kjv] And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus. [bbe] And before the king and the captains, Memucan gave his answer: Vashti the queen has done wrong, not only to the king, but to all the captains and to all the peoples in all the divisions of the kingdom of King Ahasuerus; 1:17 [hgb] 因 为 王 后 这 事 必 传 到 众 妇 人 的 耳 中 , 说 , 亚 哈 随 鲁 王 吩 咐 王 后 瓦 实 提 到 王 面 前 , 她 却 不 来 , 她 们 就 藐 视 自 己 的 丈 夫 。 [kjv] For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not. [bbe] For news of what the queen has done will come to the ears of all women, and they will no longer give respect to their husbands when it is said to them, King Ahasuerus gave orders for Vashti the queen to come before him and she came not. [kjv] Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king's princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath. [bbe] And the wives of the captains of Persia and Media, hearing what the queen has done, will say the same to all the king's captains. So there will be much shame and wrath. [kjv] If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she. [bbe] If it is pleasing to the king, let an order go out from him, and let it be recorded among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, so that it may never be changed, that Vashti is never again to come before King Ahasuerus; and let the king give her place to another who is better than she. [kjv] And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small. [bbe] And when this order, given by the king, is made public through all his kingdom (for it is great), all the wives will give honour to their husbands, great as well as small. 1:21 [hgb] 王 和 众 首 领 都 以 米 母 干 的 话 为 美 , 王 就 照 这 话 去 行 , [kjv] And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan: [bbe] And this suggestion seemed good to the king and the captains; and the king did as Memucan said; 1:22 [hgb] 发 诏 书 , 用 各 省 的 文 字 , 各 族 的 方 言 通 知 各 省 , 使 为 丈 夫 的 在 家 中 作 主 , 各 说 本 地 的 方 言 。 [kjv] For he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of every people. [bbe] And sent letters to all the divisions of the kingdom, to every division in the writing commonly used there, and to every people in the language which was theirs, saying that every man was to be the ruler in his house, and that this order was to be given out in the language of his people. [kjv] After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her. [bbe] After these things, when the king's feelings were calmer, the thought of Vashti and what she had done and the order he had made against her, came back to his mind. [kjv] Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king: [bbe] Then the servants who were waiting on the king said to him, Let search be made for some fair young virgins for the king: 2:3 [hgb] 王 可 以 派 官 在 国 中 的 各 省 , 招 聚 美 貌 的 处 女 到 书 珊 城 ( 或 作 宫 ) 的 女 院 , 交 给 掌 管 女 子 的 太 监 希 该 , 给 她 们 当 用 的 香 品 。 [kjv] And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hege the king's chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given them: [bbe] Let the king give authority to certain men in all the divisions of his kingdom, to get together all the fair young virgins and send them to Shushan, the king's town, to the women's house, under the care of Hegai, the king's servant, the keeper of the women: and let the things needed for making them clean be given to them; 2:4 [hgb] 王 所 喜 爱 的 女 子 可 以 立 为 王 后 , 代 替 瓦 实 提 。 [kjv] And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so. [bbe] And let the girl who is pleasing to the king be queen in place of Vashti. And the king was pleased with this suggestion; and he did so. 2:5 [hgb] 书 珊 城 有 一 个 犹 大 人 , 名 叫 末 底 改 , 是 便 雅 悯 人 基 士 的 曾 孙 , 示 每 的 孙 子 , 睚 珥 的 儿 子 。 [kjv] Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite; [bbe] Now there was a certain Jew in Shushan named Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite; 2:6 [hgb] 从 前 巴 比 伦 王 尼 布 甲 尼 撒 , 将 犹 大 王 耶 哥 尼 雅 ( 又 名 约 雅 斤 ) 和 百 姓 从 耶 路 撒 冷 掳 去 , 末 底 改 也 在 其 内 。 [kjv] Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away. [bbe] Who had been taken away from Jerusalem among those who had been made prisoner with Jeconiah, king of Judah, when Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had taken him away. [kjv] And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter. [bbe] And he had been a father to Hadassah, that is Esther, the daughter of his father's brother: for she had no father or mother, and she was very beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his daughter. [kjv] So it came to pass, when the king's commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king's house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women. [bbe] So when the order made by the king was publicly given out, and a number of girls had been placed in the care of Hegai in the king's house in Shushan, Esther was taken into the king's house and put in the care of Hegai, the keeper of the women. [kjv] And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged to her, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her, out of the king's house: and he preferred her and her maids unto the best place of the house of the women. [bbe] And he was pleased with the girl and was kind to her; and he quickly gave her what was needed for making her clean, and the things which were hers by right, and seven servant-girls who were to be hers from the king's house: and he had her and her servant-girls moved to the best place in the women's part of the house. [kjv] Esther had not shewed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not shew it. [bbe] Esther had not said what family or people she came from, for Mordecai had given her orders not to do so. 2:11 [hgb] 末 底 改 天 天 在 女 院 前 边 行 走 , 要 知 道 以 斯 帖 平 安 不 平 安 , 并 后 事 如 何 。 [kjv] And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women's house, to know how Esther did, and what should become of her. [bbe] And every day Mordecai took his walk before the square of the women's house, to see how Esther was and what would be done to her. [kjv] Now when every maid's turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;) [bbe] Now every girl, when her turn came, had to go in to King Ahasuerus, after undergoing, for a space of twelve months, what was ordered by the law for the women (for this was the time necessary for making them clean, that is, six months with oil of myrrh and six months with sweet perfumes and such things as are needed for making women clean): 2:13 [hgb] 女 子 进 去 见 王 是 这 样 。 [kjv] Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king's house. [bbe] And in this way the girl went in to the king; whatever she had a desire for was given to her to take with her from the women's house into the house of the king. [kjv] In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name. [bbe] In the evening she went, and on the day after she came back to the second house of the women, into the keeping of Shaashgaz, one of the king's unsexed servants who had the care of the king's wives: only if the king had delight in her and sent for her by name did she go in to him again. [kjv] Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king's chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her. [bbe] Now when the time came for Esther, the daughter of Abihail, his father's brother, whom Mordecai had taken as his daughter, to go in to the king, she made request for nothing but what Hegai, the king's servant and keeper of the women, had given her. And Esther was looked on kindly by all who saw her. [kjv] So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. [bbe] So Esther was taken in to King Ahasuerus in his house in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his rule. [kjv] And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti. [bbe] And Esther was more pleasing to the king than all the women, and to his eyes she was fairer and more full of grace than all the other virgins: so he put his crown on her head and made her queen in place of Vashti. [kjv] Then the king made a great feast unto all his princes and his servants, even Esther's feast; and he made a release to the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the state of the king. [bbe] Then the king gave a great feast for all his captains and his servants, even Esther's feast; and he gave orders through all the divisions of his kingdom for a day of rest from work, and gave wealth from his store. [kjv] And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai sat in the king's gate. [bbe] And when the virgins came together in the second house of the women, Mordecai took his seat in the doorway of the king's house. [kjv] Esther had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him. [bbe] Esther had still said nothing of her family or her people, as Mordecai had given her orders; for Esther did what Mordecai said, as when she was living with him. [kjv] In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king's gate, two of the king's chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus. [bbe] In those days, while Mordecai was seated at the king's doorway, two of the king's servants, Bigthan and Teresh, keepers of the door, being angry, were looking for a chance to make an attack on King Ahasuerus. [kjv] And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai's name. [bbe] And Mordecai, having knowledge of their purpose, sent word of it to Esther the queen; and Esther gave the news to the king in Mordecai's name. [kjv] And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king. [bbe] And when the thing had been looked into, it was seen to be true, and the two of them were put to death by hanging on a tree: and it was put down in the records before the king. [kjv] After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him. [bbe] After these things, by the order of the king, Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, was lifted up and given a position of honour and a higher place than all the other captains who were with him. [kjv] And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence. [bbe] And all the king's servants who were in the king's house went down to the earth before Haman and gave him honour: for so the king had given orders. But Mordecai did not go down before him or give him honour. [kjv] Then the king's servants, which were in the king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment? [bbe] Then the king's servants who were in the king's house said to Mordecai, Why do you go against the king's order? [kjv] Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew. [bbe] Now when they had said this to him day after day and he gave no attention, they let Haman have news of it, to see if Mordecai's behaviour would be overlooked: for he had said to them that he was a Jew. 3:5 [hgb] 哈 曼 见 末 底 改 不 跪 不 拜 , 他 就 怒 气 填 胸 。 [kjv] And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath. [bbe] And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not go down before him and give him honour, Haman was full of wrath. [kjv] And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai. [bbe] But it was not enough for him to make an attack on Mordecai only; for they had made clear to him who Mordecai's people were; so Haman made it his purpose to put an end to all the Jews, even Mordecai's people, through all the kingdom of Ahasuerus. [kjv] In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar. [bbe] In the first month, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, from day to day and from month to month they went on looking for a sign given by Pur (that is chance) before Haman, till the sign came out for the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month Adar. [kjv] And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to suffer them. [bbe] And Haman said to King Ahasuerus, There is a certain nation living here and there in small groups among the people in all the divisions of your kingdom; their laws are different from those of any other nation, and they do not keep the king's laws: for this reason it is not right for the king to let them be. 3:9 [hgb] 王 若 以 为 美 , 请 下 旨 意 灭 绝 他 们 。 [kjv] If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries. [bbe] If it is the king's pleasure, let a statement ordering their destruction be put in writing: and I will give to those responsible for the king's business, ten thousand talents of silver for the king's store-house. [kjv] And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy. [bbe] And the king took his ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the hater of the Jews. [kjv] And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee. [bbe] And the king said to Haman, The money is yours, and the people, to do with them whatever seems right to you. [kjv] Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring. [bbe] Then on the thirteenth day of the first month, the king's scribes were sent for, and they put in writing Haman's orders to all the king's captains and the rulers of every division of his kingdom and the chiefs of every people: for every division of the kingdom in the writing commonly used there, and to every people in the language which was theirs; it was signed in the name of King Ahasuerus and stamped with the king's ring. [kjv] And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey. [bbe] And letters were sent by the runners into every division of the kingdom ordering the death and destruction of all Jews, young and old, little children and women, on the same day, even the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month Adar, and the taking of all their goods by force. [kjv] The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day. [bbe] A copy of the writing, to be made public in every part of the kingdom, was sent out to all the peoples, so that they might be ready when that day came. [kjv] The posts went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed. [bbe] The runners went out quickly by the king's order, and a public statement was made in Shushan: and the king and Haman took wine together: but the town of Shushan was troubled. [kjv] When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry; [bbe] Now when Mordecai saw what was done, pulling off his robe, he put on haircloth, with dust on his head, and went out into the middle of the town, crying out with a loud and bitter cry. [kjv] And came even before the king's gate: for none might enter into the king's gate clothed with sackcloth. [bbe] And he came even before the king's doorway; for no one might come inside the king's door clothed in haircloth. [kjv] And in every province, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes. [bbe] And in every part of the kingdom, wherever the king's word and his order came, there was great sorrow among the Jews, and weeping and crying and going without food; and numbers of them were stretched on the earth covered with dust and haircloth. [kjv] So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not. [bbe] And Esther's women and her servants came and gave her word of it. Then great was the grief of the queen: and she sent robes for Mordecai, so that his clothing of haircloth might be taken off; but he would not have them. [kjv] Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king's chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was. [bbe] Then Esther sent for Hathach, one of the king's unsexed servants whom he had given her for waiting on her, and she gave him orders to go to Mordecai and see what this was and why it was. [kjv] So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king's gate. [bbe] So Hathach went out and saw Mordecai in the open square of the town before the king's doorway. [kjv] And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them. [bbe] And Mordecai gave him an account of what had taken place, and of the amount of money which Haman had said he would put into the king's store for the destruction of the Jews. [kjv] Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people. [bbe] And he gave him the copy of the order which had been given out in Shushan for their destruction, ordering him to let Esther see it, and to make it clear to her; and to say to her that she was to go in to the king, requesting his mercy, and making prayer for her people. [kjv] And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai. [bbe] And Hathach came back and gave Esther an account of what Mordecai had said. 4:10 [hgb] 以 斯 帖 就 吩 咐 哈 他 革 去 见 末 底 改 , 说 , [kjv] Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai; [bbe] Then Esther sent Hathach to say to Mordecai: 4:11 [hgb] 王 的 一 切 臣 仆 和 各 省 的 人 民 , 都 知 道 有 一 个 定 例 , 若 不 蒙 召 , 擅 入 内 院 见 王 的 , 无 论 男 女 必 被 治 死 。 [kjv] All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days. [bbe] It is common knowledge among all the king's servants and the people of every part of the kingdom, that if anyone, man or woman, comes to the king in his inner room without being sent for, there is only one law for him, that he is to be put to death; only those to whom the king's rod of gold is stretched out may keep their lives: but I have not been sent for to come before the king these thirty days. [kjv] And they told to Mordecai Esther's words. [bbe] And they said these words to Mordecai. [kjv] Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. [bbe] Then Mordecai sent this answer back to Esther: Do not have the idea that you in the king's house will be safe from the fate of all the Jews. [kjv] For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? [bbe] If at this time you say nothing, then help and salvation will come to the Jews from some other place, but you and your father's family will come to destruction: and who is to say that you have not come to the kingdom even for such a time as this? 4:15 [hgb] 以 斯 帖 就 吩 咐 人 回 报 末 底 改 说 , [kjv] Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, [bbe] Then Esther sent them back to Mordecai with this answer: 4:16 [hgb] 你 当 去 招 聚 书 珊 城 所 有 的 犹 大 人 , 为 我 禁 食 三 昼 三 夜 , 不 吃 不 喝 。 [kjv] Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. [bbe] Go, get together all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and go without food for me, taking no food or drink night or day for three days: and I and my women will do the same; and so I will go in to the king, which is against the law: and if death is to be my fate, then let it come. [kjv] So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him. [bbe] So Mordecai went away and did everything as Esther had said. [kjv] Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house. [bbe] Now on the third day, Esther put on her queen's robes, and took her place in the inner room of the king's house, facing the king's house: and the king was seated on his high seat in the king's house, facing the doorway of the house. [kjv] And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. [bbe] And when the king saw Esther the queen waiting in the inner room, looking kindly on her he put out the rod of gold in his hand to her. So Esther came near and put her fingers on the top of the rod. [kjv] Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom. [bbe] Then the king said, What is your desire, Queen Esther, and what is your request? I will give it to you, even to the half of my kingdom. [kjv] And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him. [bbe] And Esther in answer said, If it seems good to the king, let the king and Haman come today to the feast which I have made ready for him. [kjv] Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared. [bbe] Then the king said, Let Haman come quickly, so that what Esther has said may be done. So the king and Haman came to the feast which Esther had made ready. [kjv] And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed. [bbe] And while they were drinking wine the king said to Esther, What is your prayer? for it will be given to you and what is your request? for it will be done, even to the half of my kingdom. [kjv] Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is; [bbe] Then Esther said in answer, My prayer and my request is this: 5:8 [hgb] 我 若 在 王 眼 前 蒙 恩 , 王 若 愿 意 赐 我 所 要 的 , 准 我 所 求 的 , 就 请 王 带 着 哈 曼 , 再 赴 我 所 要 预 备 的 筵 席 。 [kjv] If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to morrow as the king hath said. [bbe] If I have the king's approval, and if it is the king's pleasure to give me my prayer and do my request, let the king and Haman come to the feast which I will make ready for them, and tomorrow I will do as the king has said. [kjv] Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai. [bbe] Then on that day Haman went out full of joy and glad in heart; but when he saw Mordecai in the king's doorway, and he did not get to his feet or give any sign of fear before him, Haman was full of wrath against Mordecai. [kjv] Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife. [bbe] But controlling himself, he went to his house; and he sent for his friends and Zeresh, his wife. [kjv] And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king. [bbe] And he gave them an account of the glories of his wealth, and the number of children he had, and the ways in which he had been honoured by the king, and how he had put him over the captains and servants of the king. [kjv] Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king. [bbe] And Haman said further, Truly, Esther the queen let no man but myself come in to the feast which she had made ready for the king; and tomorrow again I am to be her guest with the king. [kjv] Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate. [bbe] But all this is nothing to me while I see Mordecai the Jew seated by the king's doorway. [kjv] Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made. [bbe] Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, Let a pillar, fifty cubits high, be made ready for hanging him, and in the morning get the king to give orders for the hanging of Mordecai: then you will be able to go to the feast with the king with a glad heart. And Haman was pleased with the suggestion, and he had the pillar made. [kjv] On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king. [bbe] That night the king was unable to get any sleep; and he sent for the books of the records; and while some one was reading them to the king, 6:2 [hgb] 正 遇 见 书 上 写 着 说 , 王 的 太 监 中 有 两 个 守 门 的 , 辟 探 和 提 列 , 想 要 下 手 害 亚 哈 随 鲁 王 , 末 底 改 将 这 事 告 诉 王 后 。 [kjv] And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus. [bbe] It came out that it was recorded in the book how Mordecai had given word of the designs of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's servants, keepers of the door, by whom an attack on the king had been designed. [kjv] And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him. [bbe] And the king said, What honour and reward have been given to Mordecai for this? Then the servants who were waiting on the king said, Nothing has been done for him. ( 那 时 哈 曼 正 进 王 宫 的 外 院 , 要 求 王 将 末 底 改 挂 在 他 所 预 备 的 木 架 上 ) [kjv] And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him. [bbe] Then the king said, Who is in the outer room? Now Haman had come into the outer room to get the king's authority for the hanging of Mordecai on the pillar which he had made ready for him. [kjv] And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in. [bbe] And the king's servants said to him, See, Haman is waiting in the outer room. And the king said, Let him come in. 6:6 [hgb] 哈 曼 就 进 去 。 [kjv] So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself? [bbe] So Haman came in. And the king said to him, What is to be done to the man whom the king has delight in honouring? Then the thought came into Haman's mind, Whom, more than myself, would the king have pleasure in honouring? 6:7 [hgb] 哈 曼 就 回 答 说 , 王 所 喜 悦 尊 荣 的 人 , [kjv] And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour, [bbe] And Haman, answering the king, said, For the man whom the king has delight in honouring, 6:8 [hgb] 当 将 王 常 穿 的 朝 服 和 戴 冠 的 御 马 , [kjv] Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head: [bbe] Let them take the robes which the king generally puts on, and the horse on which the king goes, and the crown which is on his head: 6:9 [hgb] 都 交 给 王 极 尊 贵 的 一 个 大 臣 , 命 他 将 衣 服 给 王 所 喜 悦 尊 荣 的 人 穿 上 , 使 他 骑 上 马 , 走 遍 城 里 的 街 市 , 在 他 面 前 宣 告 说 , 王 所 喜 悦 尊 荣 的 人 , 就 如 此 待 他 。 [kjv] And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man withal whom the king delighteth to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour. [bbe] And let the robes and the horse be given to one of the king's most noble captains, so that they may put them on the man whom the king has delight in honouring, and let him go on horseback through the streets of the town, with men crying out before him, So let it be done to the man whom the king has delight in honouring. [kjv] Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken. [bbe] Then the king said to Haman, Go quickly, and take the robes and the horse, as you have said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, who is seated at the king's doorway: see that you do everything as you have said. [kjv] Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honour. [bbe] Then Haman took the robes and the horse, and dressing Mordecai in the robes, he made him go on horseback through the streets of the town, crying out before him, So let it be done to the man whom the king has delight in honouring. [kjv] And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered. [bbe] And Mordecai came back to the king's doorway. But Haman went quickly back to his house, sad and with his head covered. [kjv] And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him. [bbe] And Haman gave his wife Zeresh and all his friends an account of what had taken place. Then his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, If Mordecai, who is starting to get the better of you, is of the seed of the Jews, you will not be able to do anything against him, but you will certainly go down before him. [kjv] And while they were yet talking with him, came the king's chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared. [bbe] While they were still talking, the king's servants came to take Haman to the feast which Esther had made ready. [kjv] So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen. [bbe] So the king and Haman came to take wine with Esther the queen. [kjv] And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? and it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom. [bbe] And the king said to Esther again on the second day, while they were drinking, What is your prayer, Queen Esther? for it will be given to you; and what is your request? for it will be done, even to the half of my kingdom. [kjv] Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request: [bbe] Then Esther the queen, answering, said, If I have your approval, O king, and if it is the king's pleasure, let my life be given to me in answer to my prayer, and my people at my request: 7:4 [hgb] 因 我 和 我 的 本 族 被 卖 了 , 要 剪 除 杀 戮 灭 绝 我 们 。 [kjv] For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king's damage. [bbe] For we are given up, I and my people, to destruction and death and to be cut off. If we had been taken as men-servants and women-servants for a price, I would have said nothing, for our trouble is little in comparison with the king's loss. [kjv] Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so? [bbe] Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen, Who is he and where is he who has had this evil thought in his heart? [kjv] And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen. [bbe] And Esther said, Our hater and attacker is this evil Haman. Then Haman was full of fear before the king and the queen. [kjv] And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. [bbe] And the king in his wrath got up from the feast and went into the garden: and Haman got to his feet to make a prayer for his life to Esther the queen: for he saw that the king's purpose was evil against him. [kjv] Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face. [bbe] Then the king came back from the garden into the room where they had been drinking; and Haman was stretched out on the seat where Esther was. Then the king said, Is he taking the queen by force before my eyes in my house? And while the words were on the king's lips, they put a cloth over Haman's face. [kjv] And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon. [bbe] Then Harbonah, one of the unsexed servants waiting before the king, said, See, the pillar fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordecai, who said a good word for the king, is still in its place in Haman's house. Then the king said, Put him to death by hanging him on it. 7:10 [hgb] 于 是 人 将 哈 曼 挂 在 他 为 末 底 改 所 预 备 的 木 架 上 。 [kjv] So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified. [bbe] So Haman was put to death by hanging him on the pillar he had made for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath became less. [kjv] On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her. [bbe] That day the king gave all the family of Haman, the hater of the Jews, to Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had made clear what he was to her. [kjv] And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman. [bbe] And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther put Mordecai over the family of Haman. [kjv] And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews. [bbe] Then Esther again came before the king, falling down at his feet, and made request to him with weeping, that he would put a stop to the evil purposes of Haman the Agagite and the designs which he had made against the Jews. [kjv] Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther arose, and stood before the king, [bbe] Then the king put out the rod of gold to Esther, and she got up before the king. [kjv] And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king's provinces: [bbe] And she said, If it is the king's pleasure and if I have his approval and this thing seems right to the king and I am pleasing to him, then let letters be sent giving orders against those which Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, sent out for the destruction of the Jews in all divisions of the kingdom: 8:6 [hgb] 我 何 忍 见 我 本 族 的 人 受 害 ? [kjv] For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred? [bbe] For how is it possible for me to see the evil which is to overtake my nation? how may I see the destruction of my people? [kjv] Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews. [bbe] Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, See now, I have given Esther the family of Haman, and he has come to his death by hanging, because he made an attack on the Jews. [kjv] Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring: for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man reverse. [bbe] So now send a letter about the Jews, writing whatever seems good to you, in the king's name, and stamping it with the king's ring: for a writing signed in the king's name and stamped with the king's ring may not be changed. [kjv] Then were the king's scribes called at that time in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language. [bbe] Then at that time, on the twenty-third day of the third month, which is the month Sivan, the king's scribes were sent for; and everything ordered by Mordecai was put in writing and sent to the Jews and the captains and the rulers and the chiefs of all the divisions of the kingdom from India to Ethiopia, a hundred and twenty-seven divisions, to every division in the writing commonly used there, and to every people in their language, and to the Jews in their writing and their language. [kjv] And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus' name, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young dromedaries: [bbe] The letters were sent in the name of King Ahasuerus and stamped with his ring, and they were taken by men on horseback, going on the quick-running horses used for the king's business, the offspring of his best horses: 8:11 [hgb] 谕 旨 中 , 王 准 各 省 各 城 的 犹 大 人 在 一 日 之 间 , 十 二 月 , 就 是 亚 达 月 十 三 日 , 聚 集 保 护 性 命 , 剪 除 杀 戮 灭 绝 那 要 攻 击 犹 大 人 的 一 切 仇 敌 , 和 他 们 的 妻 子 儿 女 , 夺 取 他 们 的 财 为 掠 物 。 [kjv] Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey, [bbe] In these letters the king gave authority to the Jews in every town to come together and make a fight for their lives, and to send death and destruction on the power of any people in any part of the kingdom attacking them or their children or their women, and to take their goods from them by force, 8:12 [hgb] [kjv] Upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar. [bbe] On one day in every division of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, that is, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month Adar. [kjv] The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. [bbe] A copy of the writing, to be made public as an order in every division of the kingdom, was given out to all the peoples, so that the Jews might be ready when that day came to give punishment to their haters. [kjv] So the posts that rode upon mules and camels went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment. And the decree was given at Shushan the palace. [bbe] So the men went out on the quick-running horses used on the king's business, wasting no time and forced on by the king's order; and the order was given out in Shushan, the king's town. [kjv] And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad. [bbe] And Mordecai went out from before the king, dressed in king-like robes of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold and clothing of purple and the best linen: and all the town of Shushan gave loud cries of joy. [kjv] The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour. [bbe] And the Jews had light and joy and honour. [kjv] And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them. [bbe] And in every part of the kingdom and in every town, wherever the king's letter and his order came, the Jews were glad with great joy, and had a feast and a good day. And a great number of the people of the land became Jews: for the fear of the Jews had come on them. [kjv] Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;) [bbe] Now on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, when the time came for the king's order to be put into effect, on the very day when the haters of the Jews had been hoping to have rule over them; though the opposite had come about, and the Jews had rule over their haters; 9:2 [hgb] 犹 大 人 在 亚 哈 随 鲁 王 各 省 的 城 里 聚 集 , 下 手 击 杀 那 要 害 他 们 的 人 。 [kjv] The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people. [bbe] On that day, the Jews came together in their towns through all the divisions of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, for the purpose of attacking all those who were attempting evil against them: and everyone had to give way before them, for the fear of them had come on all the peoples. [kjv] And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them. [bbe] And all the chiefs and the captains and the rulers and those who did the king's business gave support to the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai had come on them. [kjv] For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater. [bbe] For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and word of him went out through every part of the kingdom: for the man Mordecai became greater and greater. [kjv] Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them. [bbe] So the Jews overcame all their attackers with the sword and with death and destruction, and did to their haters whatever they had a desire to do. 9:6 [hgb] 在 书 珊 城 , 犹 大 人 杀 灭 了 五 百 人 。 [kjv] And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men. [bbe] And in Shushan the Jews put to death five hundred men. 9:7 [hgb] 又 杀 巴 珊 大 他 , 达 分 , 亚 斯 帕 他 , [kjv] And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha, [bbe] They put to death Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, 9:8 [hgb] 破 拉 他 , 亚 大 利 雅 , 亚 利 大 他 , [kjv] And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha, [bbe] Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, 9:9 [hgb] 帕 玛 斯 他 , 亚 利 赛 , 亚 利 代 , 瓦 耶 撒 他 。 [kjv] And Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha, [bbe] Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha, 9:10 [hgb] 这 十 人 都 是 哈 米 大 他 的 孙 子 , 犹 大 人 仇 敌 哈 曼 的 儿 子 。 [kjv] The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand. [bbe] The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the hater of the Jews; but they put not a hand on any of their goods. [kjv] On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king. [bbe] On that day the number of those who had been put to death in the town of Shushan was given to the king. [kjv] And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done. [bbe] And the king said to Esther the queen, The Jews have put five hundred men to death in Shushan, as well as the ten sons of Haman: what then have they done in the rest of the kingdom! Now what is your prayer? for it will be given to you; what other request have you? and it will be done. [kjv] Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do to morrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows. [bbe] Then Esther said, If it is the king's pleasure, let authority be given to the Jews in Shushan to do tomorrow as has been done today, and let orders be given for the hanging of Haman's ten sons. [kjv] And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons. [bbe] And the king said that this was to be done, and the order was given out in Shushan, and the hanging of Haman's ten sons was effected. [kjv] For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand. [bbe] For the Jews who were in Shushan came together again on the fourteenth day of the month Adar and put to death three hundred men in Shushan; but they put not a hand on their goods. [kjv] But the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey, [bbe] And the other Jews in every division of the kingdom came together, fighting for their lives, and got salvation from their haters and put seventy-five thousand of them to death; but they did not put a hand on their goods. [kjv] On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness. [bbe] This they did on the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same month they took their rest, and made it a day of feasting and joy. [kjv] But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness. [bbe] But the Jews in Shushan came together on the thirteenth and on the fourteenth day of the month; and on the fifteenth day they took their rest, and made it a day of feasting and joy. [kjv] Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another. [bbe] So the Jews of the country places living in unwalled towns make the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of feasting and joy and a good day, a day for sending offerings one to another. 9:20 [hgb] 末 底 改 记 录 这 事 , 写 信 与 亚 哈 随 鲁 王 各 省 远 近 所 有 的 犹 大 人 , [kjv] And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far, [bbe] And Mordecai sent letters to all the Jews in every division of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, near and far, 9:21 [hgb] 嘱 咐 他 们 每 年 守 亚 达 月 十 四 , 十 五 两 日 。 [kjv] To stablish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly, [bbe] Ordering them to keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar and the fifteenth day of the same month, every year, 9:22 [hgb] 以 这 月 的 两 日 为 犹 大 人 脱 离 仇 敌 得 平 安 , 转 忧 为 喜 , 转 悲 为 乐 的 吉 日 。 [kjv] As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor. [bbe] As days on which the Jews had rest from their haters, and the month which for them was turned from sorrow to joy, and from weeping to a good day: and that they were to keep them as days of feasting and joy, of sending offerings to one another and good things to the poor. [kjv] And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them; [bbe] And the Jews gave their word to go on as they had been doing and as Mordecai had given them orders in writing; 9:24 [hgb] 是 因 犹 大 人 的 仇 敌 , 亚 甲 族 哈 米 大 他 的 儿 子 哈 曼 , 设 谋 杀 害 犹 大 人 , 掣 普 珥 , 就 是 掣 签 , 为 要 杀 尽 灭 绝 他 们 。 [kjv] Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them; [bbe] Because Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the hater of all the Jews, had made designs for their destruction, attempting to get a decision by Pur (that is, chance) with a view to putting an end to them and cutting them off; 9:25 [hgb] 这 事 报 告 于 王 , 王 便 降 旨 使 哈 曼 谋 害 犹 大 人 的 恶 事 , 归 到 他 自 己 的 头 上 , 并 吩 咐 把 他 和 他 的 众 子 都 挂 在 木 架 上 。 [kjv] But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.
