[kjv] James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. [bbe] James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, sends words of love to the twelve tribes of the Jews living in all parts of the earth. [kjv] My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; [bbe] Let it be all joy to you, my brothers, when you undergo tests of every sort; 1:3 [hgb] 因 为 知 道 你 们 的 信 心 经 过 试 验 就 生 忍 耐 。 [kjv] Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. [bbe] Because you have the knowledge that the testing of your faith gives you the power of going on in hope; 1:4 [hgb] 但 忍 耐 也 当 成 功 , 使 你 们 成 全 完 备 , 毫 无 缺 欠 。 [kjv] But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. [bbe] But let this power have its full effect, so that you may be made complete, needing nothing. [kjv] If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. [bbe] But if any man among you is without wisdom, let him make his request to God, who gives freely to all without an unkind word, and it will be given to him. [kjv] But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. [bbe] Let him make his request in faith, doubting nothing; for he who has doubt in his heart is like the waves of the sea, which are troubled by the driving of the wind. [kjv] For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. [bbe] Let it not seem to such a man that he will get anything from the Lord; 1:8 [hgb] 心 怀 二 意 的 人 , 在 他 一 切 所 行 的 路 上 , 都 没 有 定 见 。 [kjv] A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. [bbe] For there is a division in his mind, and he is uncertain in all his ways. [kjv] Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: [bbe] But let the brother of low position be glad that he is lifted up; 1:10 [hgb] 富 足 的 降 卑 , 也 该 如 此 。 [kjv] But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. [bbe] But the man of wealth, that he is made low; because like the flower of the grass he will come to his end. [kjv] For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. [bbe] For when the sun comes up with its burning heat, the grass gets dry and the grace of its form is gone with the falling flower; so the man of wealth comes to nothing in his ways. [kjv] Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. [bbe] There is a blessing on the man who undergoes testing; because, if he has God's approval, he will be given the crown of life, which the Lord has said he will give to those who have love for him. [kjv] Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: [bbe] Let no man say when he is tested, I am tested by God; for it is not possible for God to be tested by evil, and he himself puts no man to such a test: 1:14 [hgb] 但 各 人 被 试 探 , 乃 是 被 自 己 的 私 欲 牵 引 诱 惑 的 。 [kjv] But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. [bbe] But every man is tested when he is turned out of the right way by the attraction of his desire. [kjv] Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. [bbe] Then when its time comes, desire gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is of full growth, gives birth to death. [kjv] Do not err, my beloved brethren. [bbe] Do not be turned from the right way, dear brothers. [kjv] Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. [bbe] Every good and true thing is given to us from heaven, coming from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change or any shade made by turning. [kjv] Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. [bbe] Of his purpose he gave us being, by his true word, so that we might be, in a sense, the first-fruits of all the things which he had made. [kjv] Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: [bbe] You have knowledge of this, dear brothers. But let every man be quick in hearing, slow in words, slow to get angry; 1:20 [hgb] 因 为 人 的 怒 气 , 并 不 成 就 神 的 义 。 [kjv] For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. [bbe] For the righteousness of God does not come about by the wrath of man. [kjv] Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. [bbe] For this reason, putting away all dirty behaviour and the overweight of evil, take into your souls without pride the word which, being planted there, is able to give you salvation. [kjv] But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. [bbe] But be doers of the word, and not only hearers of it, blinding yourselves with false ideas. [kjv] For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: [bbe] Because if any man is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a glass; 1:24 [hgb] 看 见 , 走 后 , 随 即 忘 了 他 的 相 貌 如 何 。 [kjv] For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. [bbe] For after looking at himself he goes away, and in a short time he has no memory of what he was like. [kjv] But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. [bbe] But he who goes on looking into the true law which makes him free, being not a hearer without memory but a doer putting it into effect, this man will have a blessing on his acts. [kjv] If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. [bbe] If a man seems to have religion and has no control over his tongue but lets himself be tricked by what is false, this man's religion is of no value. [kjv] Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. [bbe] The religion which is holy and free from evil in the eyes of our God and Father is this: to take care of children who have no fathers and of widows who are in trouble, and to keep oneself untouched by the world. [kjv] My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. [bbe] My brothers, if you have the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory, do not take a man's position into account. [kjv] For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; [bbe] For if a man comes into your Synagogue in fair clothing and with a gold ring, and a poor man comes in with dirty clothing, 2:3 [hgb] 你 们 就 重 看 那 穿 华 美 衣 服 的 人 , 说 , 请 坐 在 这 好 位 上 。 [kjv] And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: [bbe] And you do honour to the man in fair clothing and say, Come here and take this good place; and you say to the poor man, Take up your position there, or be seated at my feet; 2:4 [hgb] 这 岂 不 是 你 们 偏 心 待 人 , 用 恶 意 断 定 人 吗 ? [kjv] Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? [bbe] Is there not a division in your minds? have you not become judges with evil thoughts? [kjv] Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? [bbe] Give ear, my dear brothers; are not those who are poor in the things of this world marked out by God to have faith as their wealth, and for their heritage the kingdom which he has said he will give to those who have love for him? [kjv] But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? [bbe] But you have put the poor man to shame. Are not the men of wealth rulers over you? do they not take you by force before their judges? ( 所 敬 奉 或 作 被 称 ) [kjv] Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? [bbe] Do they not say evil of the holy name which was given to you? [kjv] If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: [bbe] But if you keep the greatest law of all, as it is given in the holy Writings, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself, you do well: 2:9 [hgb] 但 你 们 若 按 外 貌 待 人 , 便 是 犯 罪 , 被 律 法 定 为 犯 法 的 。 [kjv] But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. [bbe] But if you take a man's position into account, you do evil, and are judged as evil-doers by the law. [kjv] For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. [bbe] For anyone who keeps all the law, but makes a slip in one point, is judged to have gone against it all. [kjv] For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. [bbe] For he who said, Do not be untrue in married life, is the same who said, Put no man to death. Now if you are not untrue in married life, but you put a man to death, the law is broken. [kjv] So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. [bbe] Let your words and your acts be those of men who are to be judged by the law which makes free. [kjv] For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. [bbe] For the man who has had no mercy will be judged without mercy, but mercy takes pride in overcoming judging. [kjv] What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? [bbe] What use is it, my brothers, for a man to say that he has faith, if he does nothing? will such a faith give him salvation? 2:15 [hgb] 若 是 弟 兄 , 或 是 姐 妹 , 赤 身 露 体 , 又 缺 了 日 用 的 饮 食 , [kjv] If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, [bbe] If a brother or a sister is without clothing and in need of the day's food, 2:16 [hgb] 你 们 中 间 有 人 对 他 们 说 , 平 平 安 安 地 去 吧 , 愿 你 们 穿 得 暖 吃 得 饱 。 [kjv] And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? [bbe] And one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warm and full of food; but you do not give them the things of which their bodies have need, what profit is there in this? [kjv] Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. [bbe] Even so faith without works is dead. [kjv] Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. [bbe] But a man may say, You have faith and I have works; let me see your faith without your works, and I will make my faith clear to you by my works. [kjv] Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. [bbe] You have the belief that God is one, and you do well: the evil spirits have the same belief, shaking with fear. [kjv] But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? [bbe] Do you not see, O foolish man, that faith without works is of no use? [kjv] Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? [bbe] Was not the righteousness of Abraham our father judged by his works, when he made an offering of Isaac his son on the altar? [kjv] Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? [bbe] You see that his faith was helping his works and was made complete by them; 2:23 [hgb] 这 就 应 验 经 上 所 说 , 亚 伯 拉 罕 信 神 , 这 就 算 为 他 的 义 。 [kjv] And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. [bbe] And the holy Writings were put into effect which said, And Abraham had faith in God and it was put to his account as righteousness; and he was named the friend of God. 2:24 [hgb] 这 样 看 来 , 人 称 义 是 因 着 行 为 , 不 是 单 因 着 信 。 [kjv] Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. [bbe] You see that a man's righteousness is judged by his works and not by his faith only. [kjv] Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? [bbe] And in the same way, was not the righteousness of Rahab, the loose woman, judged by her works, when she took into her house those who were sent and let them go out by another way? [kjv] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. [bbe] For as the body without the spirit is dead even so faith without works is dead. [kjv] My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. [bbe] Do not all be teachers, my brothers, because we teachers will be judged more hardly than others. [kjv] For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. [bbe] For we all go wrong in a number of things. If a man never makes a slip in his talk, then he is a complete man and able to keep all his body in control. [kjv] Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. [bbe] Now if we put bits of iron into horses' mouths so that they may be guided by us, we have complete control of their bodies. [kjv] Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. [bbe] And again ships, though they are so great and are moved by violent winds, are turned by a very small guiding-blade, at the impulse of the man who is using it. 3:5 [hgb] 这 样 , 舌 头 在 百 体 里 也 是 最 小 的 , 却 能 说 大 话 。 [kjv] Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! [bbe] Even so the tongue is a small part of the body, but it takes credit for great things. How much wood may be lighted by a very little fire! [kjv] And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. [bbe] And the tongue is a fire; it is the power of evil placed in our bodies, making all the body unclean, putting the wheel of life on fire, and getting its fire from hell. [kjv] For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: [bbe] For every sort of beast and bird and every living thing on earth and in the sea has been controlled by man and is under his authority; 3:8 [hgb] 惟 独 舌 头 没 有 人 能 制 伏 , 是 不 止 息 的 恶 物 , 满 了 害 死 人 的 毒 气 。 [kjv] But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. [bbe] But the tongue may not be controlled by man; it is an unresting evil, it is full of the poison of death. [kjv] Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. [bbe] With it we give praise to our Lord and Father; and with it we put a curse on men who are made in God's image. [kjv] Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. [bbe] Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, it is not right for these things to be so. 3:11 [hgb] 泉 源 从 一 个 眼 里 能 发 出 甜 苦 两 样 的 水 吗 ? [kjv] Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? [bbe] Does the fountain send from the same outlet sweet and bitter water? [kjv] Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. [bbe] Is a fig-tree able to give us olives, my brothers, or do we get figs from a vine, or sweet water from the salt sea? [kjv] Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. [bbe] Who has wisdom and good sense among you? let him make his works clear by a life of gentle wisdom. [kjv] But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. [bbe] But if you have bitter envy in your heart and the desire to get the better of others, have no pride in this, talking falsely against what is true. [kjv] This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. [bbe] This wisdom is not from heaven, but is of the earth and the flesh and the Evil One. 3:16 [hgb] 在 何 处 有 嫉 妒 分 争 , 就 在 何 处 有 扰 乱 , 和 各 样 的 坏 事 。 [kjv] For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. [bbe] For where envy is, and the desire to get the better of others, there is no order, but every sort of evil-doing. [kjv] But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. [bbe] But the wisdom which is from heaven is first holy, then gentle, readily giving way in argument, full of peace and mercy and good works, not doubting, not seeming other than it is. 3:18 [hgb] 并 且 使 人 和 平 的 , 是 用 和 平 所 栽 种 的 义 果 。 [kjv] And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. [bbe] And the fruit of righteousness is planted in peace for those who make peace. [kjv] From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? [bbe] What is the cause of wars and fighting among you? is it not in your desires which are at war in your bodies? [kjv] Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. [bbe] You are burning with desire, and have not your desire, so you put men to death; you are full of envy, and you are not able to get your desire, so you are fighting and making war; you have not your desire, because you do not make request for it. 4:3 [hgb] 你 们 求 也 得 不 着 , 是 因 为 你 们 妄 求 , 要 浪 费 在 你 们 的 宴 乐 中 。 [kjv] Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. [bbe] You make your request but you do not get it, because your request has been wrongly made, desiring the thing only so that you may make use of it for your pleasure. [kjv] Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. [bbe] O you who are false to God, do you not see that the friends of this world are not God's friends? Every man desiring to be a friend of this world makes himself a hater of God. 4:5 [hgb] 你 们 想 经 上 所 说 是 徒 然 的 吗 ? [kjv] Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? [bbe] Or does it seem to you that it is for nothing that the holy Writings say, The spirit which God put into our hearts has a strong desire for us? 4:6 [hgb] 但 他 赐 更 多 的 恩 典 。 [kjv] But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. [bbe] But he gives more grace. So that the Writings say, God is against the men of pride, but he gives grace to those who make themselves low before him. [kjv] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. [bbe] For this cause be ruled by God; but make war on the Evil One and he will be put to flight before you. [kjv] Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. [bbe] Come near to God and he will come near to you. Make your hands clean, you evil-doers; put away deceit from your hearts, you false in mind. [kjv] Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. [bbe] Be troubled, with sorrow and weeping; let your laughing be turned to sorrow and your joy to grief. [kjv] Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. [bbe] Make yourselves low in the eyes of the Lord and you will be lifted up by him. [kjv] Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. [bbe] Do not say evil against one another, my brothers. He who says evil against his brother or makes himself his brother's judge, says evil against the law and is judging the law: and in judging the law you become, not a doer of the law but a judge. [kjv] There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? [bbe] There is only one judge and law-giver, even he who has the power of salvation and of destruction; but who are you to be your neighbour's judge? 4:13 [hgb] ? ? [kjv] Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: [bbe] How foolish it is to say, Today or tomorrow we will go into this town, and be there for a year and do business there and get wealth: 4:14 [hgb] 其 实 明 天 如 何 , 你 们 还 不 知 道 。 [kjv] Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. [bbe] When you are not certain what will take place tomorrow. What is your life? It is a mist, which is seen for a little time and then is gone. [kjv] For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. [bbe] But the right thing to say would be, If it is the Lord's pleasure and if we are still living, we will do this and that. [kjv] But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. [bbe] But now you go on glorying in your pride: and all such glorying is evil. [kjv] Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. [bbe] The man who has knowledge of how to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. Chapter 5 5:1 [hgb] ? ? [kjv] Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. [bbe] Come now, you men of wealth, give yourselves to weeping and crying because of the bitter troubles which are coming to you. [kjv] Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. [bbe] Your wealth is unclean and insects have made holes in your clothing. [kjv] Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. [bbe] Your gold and your silver are wasted and their waste will be a witness against you, burning into your flesh. You have put by your store in the last days. [kjv] Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. [bbe] See, the money which you falsely kept back from the workers cutting the grass in your field, is crying out against you; and the cries of those who took in your grain have come to the ears of the Lord of armies. [kjv] Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. [bbe] You have been living delicately on earth and have taken your pleasure; you have made your hearts fat for a day of destruction. [kjv] Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you. [bbe] You have given your decision against the upright man and have put him to death. He puts up no fight against you. [kjv] Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. [bbe] Go on waiting calmly, my brothers, till the coming of the Lord, like the farmer waiting for the good fruit of the earth till the early and late rains have come. [kjv] Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. [bbe] Be as calm in your waiting; let your hearts be strong: because the coming of the Lord is near. [kjv] Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. [bbe] Say no hard things against one another, brothers, so that you will not be judged; see, the judge is waiting at the doors. [kjv] Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. [bbe] Take as an example of pain nobly undergone and of strength in trouble, the prophets who gave to men the words of the Lord. [kjv] Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. [bbe] We say that those men who have gone through pain are happy: you have the story of Job and the troubles through which he went and have seen that the Lord was full of pity and mercy in the end. [kjv] But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. [bbe] But most of all, my brothers, do not take oaths, not by the heaven, or by the earth, or by any other thing: but let your Yes be Yes, and your No be No: so that you may not be judged. [kjv] Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. [bbe] Is anyone among you in trouble? let him say prayers. Is anyone glad? let him make a song of praise. [kjv] Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: [bbe] Is anyone among you ill? let him send for the rulers of the church; and let them say prayers over him, putting oil on him in the name of the Lord. [kjv] And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. [bbe] And by the prayer of faith the man who is ill will be made well, and he will be lifted up by the Lord, and for any sin which he has done he will have forgiveness. [kjv] Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. [bbe] So then, make a statement of your sins to one another, and say prayers for one another so that you may be made well. The prayer of a good man is full of power in its working. [kjv] Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. [bbe] Elijah was a man of flesh and blood as we are, and he made a strong prayer that there might be no rain; and there was no rain on the earth for three years and six months. [kjv] And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. [bbe] And he made another prayer, and the heaven sent down rain and the earth gave her fruit. [kjv] Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; [bbe] My brothers, if one of you has gone out of the way of the true faith and another has made him see his error, 5:20 [hgb] 这 人 该 知 道 叫 一 个 罪 人 从 迷 路 上 转 回 , 便 是 救 一 个 灵 魂 不 死 , 并 且 遮 盖 许 多 的 罪 。 [kjv] Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. [bbe] Be certain that he through whom a sinner has been turned from the error of his way, keeps a soul from death and is the cause of forgiveness for sins without number.
