    [kjv]  Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
    [bbe]  Let the Lord be praised. O give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.
    [kjv]  Who can utter the mighty1 acts of the LORD? who can shew forth2 all his praise?
    [bbe]  Who is able to give an account of the great acts of the Lord, or to make clear all his praise?
    [kjv]  Blessed are they that keep judgment3, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.
    [bbe]  Happy are they whose decisions are upright, and he who does righteousness at all times.
    [kjv]  Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation4;
    [bbe]  Keep me in mind, O Lord, when you are good to your people; O let your salvation come to me;
    [kjv]  That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.
    [bbe]  So that I may see the well-being5 of the people of your selection, and have a part in the joy of your nation, and take pride in your heritage.
    [kjv]  We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity6, we have done wickedly.
    [bbe]  We are sinners like our fathers, we have done wrong, our acts are evil.
    [kjv]  Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.
    [bbe]  Our fathers did not give thought to your wonders in Egypt; they did not keep in memory the great number of your mercies, but gave you cause for wrath7 at the sea, even at the Red Sea.
    [kjv]  Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.
    [bbe]  But he was their saviour8 because of his name, so that men might see his great power.
    [kjv]  He rebuked9 the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness10.
    [bbe]  By his word the Red Sea was made dry: and he took them through the deep waters as through the waste land.
    [kjv]  And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed11 them from the hand of the enemy.
    [bbe]  And he took them safely out of the hands of their haters, and kept them from the attacks of those who were against them.
    [kjv]  And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.
    [bbe]  And the waters went over their haters; all of them came to an end.
    [kjv]  Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.
    [bbe]  Then they had faith in his words; they gave him songs of praise.
    [kjv]  They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:
    [bbe]  But their memory of his works was short; not waiting to be guided by him,
    [kjv]  But lusted12 exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted13 God in the desert.
    [bbe]  They gave way to their evil desires in the waste land, and put God to the test in the dry places.
    [kjv]  And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.
    [bbe]  And he gave them their request, but sent a wasting disease into their souls.
    [kjv]  They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.
    [bbe]  They were full of envy against Moses among the tents, and against Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.
    [kjv]  The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.
    [bbe]  The earth opening put an end to Dathan, covering up Abiram and his band.
    [kjv]  And a fire was kindled14 in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.
    [bbe]  And a fire was lighted among their tents; the sinners were burned up by the flames.
    [kjv]  They made a calf15 in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.
    [bbe]  They made a young ox in Horeb, and gave worship to an image of gold.
    [kjv]  Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.
    [bbe]  And their glory was changed into the image of an ox, whose food is grass.
    [kjv]  They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;
    [bbe]  They had no memory of God their saviour, who had done great things in Egypt;
    [kjv]  Wondrous16 works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.
    [bbe]  Works of wonder in the land of Ham, and things of fear by the Red Sea.
    [kjv]  Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach17, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
    [bbe]  And he was purposing to put an end to them if Moses, his special servant, had not gone up before him, between him and his people, turning back his wrath, to keep them from destruction.
    [kjv]  Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:
    [bbe]  They were disgusted with the good land; they had no belief in his word;

    [bbe]  Talking against him secretly in their tents, they did not give ear to the voice of the Lord.
    [kjv]  Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow18 them in the wilderness:
    [bbe]  So he made an oath against them, to put an end to them in the waste land:
    [kjv]  To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter19 them in the lands.

    [kjv]  Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.
    [bbe]  So they made him angry by their behaviour; and he sent disease on them.
    [kjv]  Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

    [kjv]  They angered him also at the waters of strife20, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:
    [bbe]  They made God angry again at the waters of Meribah, so that Moses was troubled because of them;
