[kjv] Whose adorning3 let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
[bbe] Do not let your ornaments5 be those of the body such as dressing6 of the hair, or putting on of jewels of gold or fair clothing;
3:4 [hgb] 只 要 以 里 面 存 着 长 久 温 柔 安 静 的 心 为 妆 饰 。 这 在 神 面 前 是 极 宝 贵 的 。
[kjv] But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible7, even the ornament4 of a meek8 and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
[bbe] But let them be those of the unseen man of the heart, the ever-shining ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great price in the eyes of God.
3:5 [hgb] 因 为 古 时 仰 赖 神 的 圣 洁 妇 人 ， 正 是 以 此 为 妆 饰 ， 顺 服 自 己 的 丈 夫 。
[kjv] For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned9 themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
[bbe] And these were the ornaments of the holy women of the past, whose hope was in God, being ruled by their husbands:
3:6 [hgb] 就 如 撒 拉 听 从 亚 伯 拉 罕 ， 称 他 为 主 。 你 们 若 行 善 ， 不 因 恐 吓 而 害 怕 ， 便 是 撒 拉 的 女 儿 了 。
[kjv] Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement10.
[bbe] As Sarah was ruled by Abraham, naming him lord; whose children you are if you do well, and are not put in fear by any danger.
3:7 [hgb] 你 们 作 丈 夫 的 ， 也 要 按 情 理 和 妻 子 同 住 （ 情 理 原 文 作 知 识 ） 。 因 她 比 你 软 弱 （ 比 你 软 弱 原 文 作 是 软 弱 的 器 皿 ） ， 与 你 一 同 承 受 生 命 之 恩 的 ， 所 以 要 敬 重 她 。 这 样 便 叫 你 们 的 祷 告 没 有 阻 碍 。
[kjv] Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel11, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
[bbe] And you husbands, give thought to your way of life with your wives, giving honour to the woman who is the feebler vessel, but who has an equal part in the heritage of the grace of life; so that you may not be kept from prayer.
3:8 [hgb] 总 而 言 之 ， 你 们 都 要 同 心 ， 彼 此 体 恤 ， 相 爱 如 弟 兄 ， 存 慈 怜 谦 卑 的 心 。
[kjv] Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion12 one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous13:
[bbe] Last of all, see that you are all in agreement; feeling for one another, loving one another like brothers, full of pity, without pride:
3:9 [hgb] 不 以 恶 报 恶 ， 以 辱 骂 还 辱 骂 ， 倒 要 祝 福 。 因 你 们 是 为 此 蒙 召 ， 好 叫 你 们 承 受 福 气 。
[kjv] Not rendering14 evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing15; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
[bbe] Not giving back evil for evil, or curse for curse, but in place of cursing, blessing; because this is the purpose of God for you that you may have a heritage of blessing.
3:10 [hgb] 因 为 经 上 说 ， 人 若 爱 生 命 ， 愿 享 美 福 ， 须 要 禁 止 舌 头 不 出 恶 言 ， 嘴 唇 不 说 诡 诈 的 话 。
[kjv] For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile16:
[bbe] For it is said, Let the man who has a love of life, desiring to see good days, keep his tongue from evil and his lips from words of deceit:
3:11 [hgb] 也 要 离 恶 行 善 。 寻 求 和 睦 ， 一 心 追 赶 。
[kjv] Let him eschew17 evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
[bbe] And let him be turned from evil and do good; searching for peace and going after it with all his heart.
3:12 [hgb] 因 为 主 的 眼 看 顾 义 人 ， 主 的 耳 听 他 们 的 祈 祷 。 惟 有 行 恶 的 人 ， 主 向 他 们 变 脸 。
[kjv] For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
[bbe] For the eyes of the Lord are on the upright, and his ears are open to their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
3:13 [hgb] 你 们 若 是 热 心 行 善 ， 有 谁 害 你 们 呢 ？
[kjv] And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers18 of that which is good?
[bbe] Who will do you any damage if you keep your minds fixed19 on what is good?
3:14 [hgb] 你 们 就 是 为 义 受 苦 ， 也 是 有 福 的 。 不 要 怕 人 的 威 吓 ， 也 不 要 惊 慌 （ 的 威 吓 或 作 所 怕 的 ） 。
[kjv] But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;
[bbe] But you are happy if you undergo pain because of righteousness; have no part in their fear and do not be troubled;
3:15 [hgb] 只 要 心 里 尊 主 基 督 为 圣 。 有 人 问 你 们 心 中 盼 望 的 缘 由 ， 就 要 常 作 准 备 ， 以 温 柔 敬 畏 的 心 回 答 各 人 。
[kjv] But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness20 and fear:
[bbe] But give honour to Christ in your hearts as your Lord; and be ready at any time when you are questioned about the hope which is in you, to give an answer in the fear of the Lord and without pride;
3:16 [hgb] 存 着 无 亏 的 良 心 ， 叫 你 们 在 何 事 上 被 毁 谤 ， 就 在 何 事 上 ， 可 以 叫 那 诬 赖 你 们 在 基 督 里 有 好 品 行 的 人 ， 自 觉 羞 愧 。
[kjv] Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
[bbe] Being conscious that you have done no wrong; so that those who say evil things about your good way of life as Christians21 may be put to shame.
3:17 [hgb] 神 的 旨 意 若 是 叫 你 们 因 行 善 受 苦 ， 总 强 如 因 行 恶 受 苦 。
[kjv] For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
[bbe] Because if it is God's purpose for you to undergo pain, it is better to do so for well-doing than for evil-doing.
3:18 [hgb] 因 基 督 也 曾 一 次 为 罪 受 苦 （ 受 苦 有 古 卷 作 受 死 ） ， 就 是 义 的 代 替 不 义 的 ， 为 要 引 我 们 到 神 面 前 。 按 着 肉 体 说 他 被 治 死 。 按 着 灵 性 说 他 复 活 了 。

[bbe] And baptism, of which this is an image, now gives you salvation, not by washing clean the flesh, but by making you free from the sense of sin before God, through the coming again of Jesus Christ from the dead;
