First of all, he took a refreshing4 draught5 of the beer, and thenhe looked up at a window, and bestowed6 a platonic7 wink8 on ayoung lady who was peeling potatoes thereat. Then he opened thepaper, and folded it so as to get the police reports outwards9; andthis being a vexatious and difficult thing to do, when there is anywind stirring, he took another draught of the beer when he hadaccomplished it.
