Ivypool opened her eyes in the Dark Forest to the sound of flying paw steps. She flinched2 backward to avoid a col ision and found herself staring into Breezepelt’s amber4 eyes.
Recovering her footing, Ivypool realized that she was surrounded by cats, al streaming past her, brushing through the undergrowth in the pale, sickly light. She recognized cats from al four Clans6, seasoned warriors9 and young apprentices10, as far as she could see through the dingy12 trees.

Ivypool gulped13. That was a far more dreadful summons than she was used to hearing from a Clan7 leader. At the same moment Hol owflight rushed up to her.
