Chapter 38

38:1 [hgb]  那 时 ， 耶 和 华 从 旋 风 中 回 答 约 伯 说 ，
    [kjv]  Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
    [bbe]  And the Lord made answer to Job out of the storm-wind, and said,
38:2 [hgb]  谁 用 无 知 的 言 语 ， 使 我 的 旨 意 暗 昧 不 明 。
    [kjv]  Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
    [bbe]  Who is this who makes the purpose of God dark by words without knowledge?
38:3 [hgb]  你 要 如 勇 士 束 腰 。 我 问 你 ， 你 可 以 指 示 我 。
    [kjv]  Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
    [bbe]  Get your strength together like a man of war; I will put questions to you, and you will give me the answers.
38:4 [hgb]  我 立 大 地 根 基 的 时 候 ， 你 在 哪 里 呢 ？ 你 若 有 聪 明 ， 只 管 说 吧 。
    [kjv]  Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
    [bbe]  Where were you when I put the earth on its base? Say, if you have knowledge.
38:5 [hgb]  你 若 晓 得 就 说 ， 是 谁 定 地 的 尺 度 ？ 是 谁 把 准 绳 拉 在 其 上 ？
    [kjv]  Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
    [bbe]  By whom were its measures fixed¹? Say, if you have wisdom; or by whom was the line stretched out over it?
38:6 [hgb]  地 的 根 基 安 置 在 何 处 ？ 地 的 角 石 是 谁 安 放 的 ？
    [kjv]  Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
    [bbe]  On what were its pillars based, or who put down its angle-stone,
38:7 [hgb]  那 时 晨 星 一 同 歌 唱 ， 神 的 众 子 也 都 欢 呼 。
    [kjv]  When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
    [bbe]  When the morning stars made songs together, and all the sons of the gods gave cries of joy?
38:8 [hgb]  海 水 冲 出 ， 如 出 胎 胞 ， 那 时 谁 将 它 关 闭 呢 ？
    [kjv]  Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth², as if it had issued out of the womb?
    [bbe]  Or where were you when the sea came to birth, pushing out from its secret place;
38:9 [hgb]  是 我 用 云 彩 当 海 的 衣 服 ， 用 幽 暗 当 包 裹 它 的 布 ，
    [kjv]  When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
    [bbe]  When I made the cloud its robe, and put thick clouds as bands round it,
38:10 [hgb]  为 它 定 界 限 ， 又 安 门 和 闩 ，
    [kjv]  And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
    [bbe]  Ordering a fixed limit for it, with locks and doors;
38:11 [hgb]  说 ， 你 只 可 到 这 里 ， 不 可 越 过 。 你 狂 傲 的 浪 要 到 此 止 住 。
    [kjv]  And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
    [bbe]  And said, So far you may come, and no farther; and here the pride of your waves will be stopped?
38:12 [hgb]  你 自 生 以 来 ， 曾 命 定 晨 光 ， 使 清 晨 的 日 光 知 道 本 位 。
    [kjv]  Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
    [bbe]  Have you, from your earliest days, given orders to the morning, or made the dawn conscious of its place;
38:13 [hgb]  叫 这 光 普 照 地 的 四 极 ， 将 恶 人 从 其 中 驱 逐 出 来 吗 ？
    [kjv]  That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
    [bbe]  So that it might take a grip of the skirts of the earth, shaking all the evil-doers out of it?
38:14 [hgb]  因 这 光 ， 地 面 改 变 如 泥 上 印 印 ， 万 物 出 现 如 衣 服 一 样 。
    [kjv]  It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
    [bbe]  It is changed like wet earth under a stamp, and is coloured like a robe;
38:15 [hgb]  亮 光 不 照 恶 人 ， 强 横 的 膀 臂 也 必 折 断 。
    [kjv]  And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
    [bbe]  And from the evil-doers their light is kept back, and the arm of pride is broken.
38:16 [hgb]  你 曾 进 到 海 源 ， 或 在 深 渊 的 隐 密 处 行 走 吗 ？
    [kjv]  Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?
    [bbe]  Have you come into the springs of the sea, walking in the secret places of the deep?
38:17 [hgb]  死 亡 的 门 曾 向 你 显 露 吗 ？ 死 荫 的 门 你 曾 见 过 吗 ？
    [kjv]  Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?
    [bbe]  Have the doors of death been open to you, or have the door-keepers of the dark ever seen you?
38:18 [hgb]  地 的 广 大 你 能 明 透 吗 ？ 你 若 全 知 道 ， 只 管 说 吧 。
    [kjv]  Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.
    [bbe]  Have you taken note of the wide limits of the earth? Say, if you have knowledge of it all.
38:19 [hgb]  光 明 的 居 所 从 何 而 至 ？ 黑 暗 的 本 位 在 于 何 处 ？
    [kjv]  Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
    [bbe]  Which is the way to the resting-place of the light, and where is the store-house of the dark;
38:20 [hgb]  你 能 带 到 本 境 ， 能 看 明 其 室 之 路 吗 ？
    [kjv]  That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
    [bbe]  So that you might take it to its limit, guiding it to its house?
38:21 [hgb]  你 总 知 道 ， 因 为 你 早 已 生 在 世 上 ， 你 日 子 的 数 目 也 多 。
    [kjv]  Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
    [bbe]  No doubt you have knowledge of it, for then you had come to birth, and the number of your days is great.
38:22 [hgb]  你 曾 进 入 雪 库 。 或 见 过 雹 仓 吗 ？
    [kjv]  Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
    [bbe]  Have you come into the secret place of snow, or have you seen the store-houses of the ice-drops,
38:23 [hgb]  这 雪 雹 乃 是 我 为 降 灾 ， 并 打 仗 和 争 战 的 日 子 所 预 备 的 。
    [kjv]  Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
    [bbe]  Which I have kept for the time of trouble, for the day of war and fighting?
38:24 [hgb]  光 亮 从 何 路 分 开 ？ 东 风 从 何 路 分 散 遍 地 ？
    [kjv]  By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?
    [bbe]  Which is the way to the place where the wind is measured out, and the east wind sent out over the earth?
38:25 [hgb]  谁 为 雨 水 分 道 ？ 谁 为 雷 电 开 路 ？
    [kjv]  Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing³ of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
    [bbe]  By whom has the way been cut for the flowing of the rain, and the flaming of the thunder;
38:26 [hgb]  使 雨 降 在 无 人 之 地 ， 无 人 居 住 的 旷 野 。
    [kjv]  To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness⁴, wherein there is no man;
    [bbe]  Causing rain to come on a land where no man is living, on the waste land which has no people;
38:27 [hgb]  使 荒 废 凄 凉 之 地 得 以 丰 足 ， 青 草 得 以 发 生 。
    [kjv]  To satisfy the desolate⁵ and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
    [bbe]  To give water to the land where there is waste and destruction, and to make the dry land green with young grass?
38:28 [hgb]  雨 有 父 吗 ？ 露 水 珠 是 谁 生 的 呢 ？
    [kjv]  Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten⁶ the drops of dew?
    [bbe]  Has the rain a father? or who gave birth to the drops of night mist?
38:29 [hgb]  冰 出 于 谁 的 胎 ？ 天 上 的 霜 是 谁 生 的 呢 ？
    [kjv]  Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary⁷ frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
    [bbe]  Out of whose body came the ice? and who gave birth to the cold mist of heaven?
38:30 [hgb]  诸 水 坚 硬 （ 或 作 隐 藏 ） 如 石 头 ， 深 渊 之 面 凝 结 成 冰 。
    [kjv]  The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
    [bbe]  The waters are joined together, hard as a stone, and the face of the deep is covered.
38:31 [hgb]  你 能 系 住 昴 星 的 结 吗 ？ 能 解 开 参 星 的 带 吗 ？
    [kjv]  Canst thou bind⁸ the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
    [bbe]  Are the bands of the Pleiades fixed by you, or are the cords of Orion made loose?
38:32 [hgb]  你 能 按 时 领 出 十 二 宫 吗 ？ 能 引 导 北 斗 和 随 它 的 众 星 吗 （ 星 原 文 作 子 ） ？
    [kjv]  Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
    [bbe]  Do you make Mazzaroth come out in its right time, or are the Bear and its children guided by you?
38:33 [hgb]  你 知 道 天 的 定 例 吗 ？ 能 使 地 归 在 天 的 权 下 吗 ？
    [kjv]  Knowest thou the ordinances⁹ of heaven? canst thou set the dominion¹⁰ thereof in the earth?
    [bbe]  Have you knowledge of the laws of the heavens? did you give them rule over the earth?
38:34 [hgb]  你 能 向 云 彩 扬 起 声 来 ， 使 倾 盆 的 雨 遮 盖 你 吗 ？
    [kjv]  Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
    [bbe]  Is your voice sent up to the cloud, so that you may be covered by the weight of waters?
38:35 [hgb]  你 能 发 出 闪 电 ， 叫 它 行 去 ， 使 它 对 你 说 ， 我 们 在 这 里 。
    [kjv]  Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
    [bbe]  Do you send out the thunder-flames, so that they may go, and say to you, Here we are?
38:36 [hgb]  谁 将 智 慧 放 在 怀 中 ？ 谁 将 聪 明 赐 于 心 内 ？
    [kjv]  Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
    [bbe]  Who has put wisdom in the high clouds, or given knowledge to the lights of the north?
38:37 [hgb]  谁 能 用 智 慧 数 算 云 彩 呢 ？ 尘 土 聚 集 成 团 ， 土 块 紧 紧 结 连 。 那 时 ， 谁 能 倾 倒 天 上 的 瓶 呢 ？
    [kjv]  Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
    [bbe]  By whose wisdom are the clouds numbered, or the water-skins of the heavens turned to the earth,
38:38 [hgb]  
    [kjv]  When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave¹¹ fast together?
    [bbe]  When the earth becomes hard as metal, and is joined together in masses?
38:39 [hgb]  母 狮 子 在 洞 中 蹲 伏 ， 少 壮 狮 子 在 隐 密 处 埋 伏 。 你 能 为 它 们 抓 取 食 物 ， 使 它 们 饱 足 吗 ？
    [kjv]  Wilt thou hunt the prey¹² for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
    [bbe]  Do you go after food for the she-lion, or get meat so that the young lions may have enough,

    [kjv]  When they couch in their dens¹³, and abide¹⁴ in the covert¹⁵ to lie in wait?
    [bbe]  When they are stretched out in their holes, and are waiting in the brushwood?
38:41 [hgb]  乌 鸦 之 雏 因 无 食 物 飞 来 飞 去 ， 哀 告 神 。 那 时 ， 谁 为 它 预 备 食 物 呢 ？
    [kjv]  Who provideth for the raven¹⁶ his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
    [bbe]  Who gives in the evening the meat he is searching for, when his young ones are crying to God; when the young lions with loud noise go wandering after their food?

1 fixed
