Chapter 4

4:1 [hgb]  国 民 尽 都 过 了 约 旦 河 ， 耶 和 华 就 对 约 书 亚 说 ， 
    [kjv]  And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over Jordan, that the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
    [bbe]  Now when all the nation had come to the other side of Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua,
4:2 [hgb]  你 从 民 中 要 拣 选 十 二 个 人 ， 每 支 派 一 人 ， 
    [kjv]  Take you twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,
    [bbe]  Take twelve men from the people, a man for every tribe,
4:3 [hgb]  吩 咐 他 们 说 ， 你 们 从 这 里 ， 从 约 旦 河 中 ， 祭 司 脚 站 定 的 地 方 ， 取 十 二 块 石 头 带 过 去 ， 放 在 你 们 今 夜 要 住 宿 的 地 方 。 
    [kjv]  And command ye them, saying, Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging¹ place, where ye shall lodge² this night.
    [bbe]  And say to them, Take up from the middle of Jordan, from the place where the feet of the priests were resting, twelve stones, and take them over with you and put them down in the place where you take your rest tonight.
4:4 [hgb]  于 是 ， 约 书 亚 将 他 从 以 色 列 人 中 所 预 备 的 那 十 二 个 人 ， 每 支 派 一 人 ， 都 召 了 来 。 
    [kjv]  Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man:
    [bbe]  So Joshua sent for the twelve men, whom he had ready, one man out of every tribe of the children of Israel,
4:5 [hgb]  对 他 们 说 ， 你 们 下 约 旦 河 中 ， 过 到 耶 和 华 你 们 神 的 约 柜 前 头 ， 按 着 以 色 列 人 十 二 支 派 的 数 目 ， 每 人 取 一 块 石 头 扛 在 肩 上 。 
    [kjv]  And Joshua said unto them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of Jordan, and take you up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:
    [bbe]  And he said to them, Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of Jordan, and let every one of you take up a stone on his back, one for every tribe of the children of Israel:
4:6 [hgb]  这 些 石 头 在 你 们 中 间 可 以 作 为 证 据 。 日 后 ， 你 们 的 子 孙 问 你 们 说 ， 这 些 石 头 是 什 么 意 思 。 
    [kjv]  That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?
    [bbe]  So that this may be a sign among you; when your children say to you in time to come, What is the reason for these stones?
4:7 [hgb]  你 们 就 对 他 们 说 ， 这 是 因 为 约 旦 河 的 水 在 耶 和 华 的 约 柜 前 断 绝 。 约 柜 过 约 旦 河 的 时 候 ， 约 旦 河 的 水 就 断 绝 了 。 这 些 石 头 要 作 以 色 列 人 永 远 的 纪 念 。 
    [kjv]  Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant³ of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.
    [bbe]  Then you will say to them, Because the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the Lord's agreement; when it went over Jordan the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones will be a sign for the children of Israel, keeping it in their memory for ever.
4:8 [hgb]  以 色 列 人 就 照 约 书 亚 所 吩 咐 的 ， 按 着 以 色 列 人 支 派 的 数 目 ， 从 约 旦 河 中 取 了 十 二 块 石 头 ， 都 遵 耶 和 华 所 吩 咐 约 书 亚 的 行 了 。 他 们 把 石 头 带 过 去 ， 到 他 们 所 住 宿 的 地 方 ， 就 放 在 那 里 。 
    [kjv]  And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the LORD spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged⁴, and laid them down there.
    [bbe]  So the children of Israel did as Joshua gave them orders, and took twelve stones from the middle of Jordan, as the Lord had said to Joshua, one for every tribe of the children of Israel; these they took across with them to their night's resting-place and put them down there.
4:9 [hgb]  约 书 亚 另 把 十 二 块 石 头 立 在 约 旦 河 中 ， 在 抬 约 柜 的 祭 司 脚 站 立 的 地 方 。 直 到 今 日 ， 那 石 头 还 在 那 里 。 
    [kjv]  And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.
    [bbe]  And Joshua put up twelve stones in the middle of Jordan, where the feet of the priests who took up the ark of the agreement had been placed: and there they are to this day.
4:10 [hgb]  抬 约 柜 的 祭 司 站 在 约 旦 河 中 ， 等 到 耶 和 华 晓 谕 约 书 亚 吩 咐 百 姓 的 事 办 完 了 ， 是 照 摩 西 所 吩 咐 约 书 亚 的 一 切 话 。 于 是 百 姓 急 速 过 去 了 。 
    [kjv]  For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.
    [bbe]  For the priests who took up the ark kept there in the middle of Jordan till all the orders given to Joshua by Moses from the Lord had been done: then the people went over quickly.
4:11 [hgb]  众 百 姓 尽 都 过 了 河 ， 耶 和 华 的 约 柜 和 祭 司 就 在 百 姓 面 前 过 去 。 
    [kjv]  And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people.
    [bbe]  And when all the people had come to the other side, the ark of the Lord went over, and the priests, before the eyes of the people.
4:12 [hgb]  流 便 人 ， 迦 得 人 ， 玛 拿 西 半 支 派 的 人 都 照 摩 西 所 吩 咐 他 们 的 ， 带 着 兵 器 在 以 色 列 人 前 头 过 去 。 
    [kjv]  And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad⁵, and half the tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake unto them:
    [bbe]  And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh went over armed before the children of Israel as Moses had said to them:
4:13 [hgb]  约 有 四 万 人 都 准 备 打 仗 ， 在 耶 和 华 面 前 过 去 ， 到 耶 利 哥 的 平 原 ， 等 候 上 阵 。 
    [kjv]  About forty thousand prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, to the plains of Jericho.
    [bbe]  About forty thousand armed for war went over before the Lord to the fight, to the lowlands of Jericho.
4:14 [hgb]  当 那 日 ， 耶 和 华 使 约 书 亚 在 以 色 列 众 人 眼 前 尊 大 。 在 他 平 生 的 日 子 ， 百 姓 敬 畏 他 ， 像 从 前 敬 畏 摩 西 一 样 。 
    [kjv]  On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.
    [bbe]  That day the Lord made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel; and all the days of his life they went in fear of him, as they had gone in fear of Moses.
4:15 [hgb]  耶 和 华 晓 谕 约 书 亚 说 ， 
    [kjv]  And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,
    [bbe]  Then the Lord said to Joshua,
4:16 [hgb]  你 吩 咐 抬 法 柜 的 祭 司 从 约 旦 河 里 上 来 。 
    [kjv]  Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony⁶, that they come up out of Jordan.
    [bbe]  Give orders to the priests who take up the ark of witness, to come up out of Jordan.
4:17 [hgb]  约 书 亚 就 吩 咐 祭 司 说 ， 你 们 从 约 旦 河 里 上 来 。 
    [kjv]  Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of Jordan.
    [bbe]  So Joshua gave orders to the priests, saying, Come up now out of Jordan.
4:18 [hgb]  抬 耶 和 华 约 柜 的 祭 司 从 约 旦 河 里 上 来 ， 脚 掌 刚 落 旱 地 ， 约 旦 河 的 水 就 流 到 原 处 ， 仍 旧 涨 过 两 岸 。 
    [kjv]  And it came to pass, when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were come up out of the midst of Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of Jordan returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as they did before.
    [bbe]  And when the priests who took up the ark of the Lord's agreement came up out of Jordan and their feet came out on to dry land, the waters of Jordan went back to their place, overflowing⁷ its edges as before.
4:19 [hgb]  正 月 初 十 日 ， 百 姓 从 约 旦 河 里 上 来 ， 就 在 吉 甲 ， 在 耶 利 哥 的 东 边 安 营 。 
    [kjv]  And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.
    [bbe]  So on the tenth day of the first month the people came up out of Jordan, and put up their tents in Gilgal, on the east side of Jericho.
4:20 [hgb]  他 们 从 约 旦 河 中 取 来 的 那 十 二 块 石 头 ， 约 书 亚 就 立 在 吉 甲 ， 
    [kjv]  And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.
    [bbe]  And the twelve stones which they took out of Jordan, Joshua put up in Gilgal.
4:21 [hgb]  对 以 色 列 人 说 ， 日 后 你 们 的 子 孙 问 他 们 的 父 亲 说 ， 这 些 石 头 是 什 么 意 思 。 
    [kjv]  And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?
    [bbe]  And he said to the children of Israel, When your children say to their fathers in time to come, What is the reason for these stones?
4:22 [hgb]  你 们 就 告 诉 他 们 说 ， 以 色 列 人 曾 走 干 地 过 这 约 旦 河 。 
    [kjv]  Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.
    [bbe]  Then give your children the story, and say, Israel came over this river Jordan on dry land.
4:23 [hgb]  因 为 耶 和 华 你 们 的 神 在 你 们 前 面 使 约 旦 河 的 水 干 了 ， 等 着 你 们 过 来 ， 就 如 耶 和 华 你 们 的 神 从 前 在 我 们 前 面 使 红 海 干 了 ， 等 着 我 们 过 来 一 样 ， 
    [kjv]  For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
    [bbe]  For the Lord your God made the waters of Jordan dry before you till you had gone across, as he did to the Red Sea, drying it up before us till we had gone across:
4:24 [hgb]  要 使 地 上 万 民 都 知 道 ， 耶 和 华 的 手 大 有 能 力 ， 也 要 使 你 们 永 远 敬 畏 耶 和 华 你 们 的 神 。 
    [kjv]  That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty⁸: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.
    [bbe]  So that all the peoples of the earth may see that the hand of the Lord is strong; and that they may go in fear of the Lord your God for ever.

1 lodging   

n.寄宿，住所；(大学生的)校外宿舍

2 lodge

3 covenant
