    [kjv]  Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
    [bbe]  Now after the death of Joshua, the children of Israel made request to the Lord, saying, Who is to go up first to make war for us against the Canaanites?
1:2 [hgb]  耶 和 华 说 , 犹 大 当 先 上 去 , 我 已 将 那 地 交 在 他 手 中 。 
    [kjv]  And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold2, I have delivered the land into his hand.
    [bbe]  And the Lord said, Judah is to go up: see, I have given the land into his hands.
1:3 [hgb]  犹 大 对 他 哥 哥 西 缅 说 , 请 你 同 我 到 拈 阄 所 得 之 地 去 , 好 与 迦 南 人 争 战 。 以 后 我 也 同 你 到 你 拈 阄 所 得 之 地 去 。 于 是 西 缅 与 他 同 去 。 
    [kjv]  And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
    [bbe]  Then Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my heritage, so that we may make war against the Canaanites; and I will then go with you into your heritage. So Simeon went with him.
1:4 [hgb]  犹 大 就 上 去 , 耶 和 华 将 迦 南 人 和 比 利 洗 人 交 在 他 们 手 中 。 他 们 在 比 色 击 杀 了 一 万 人 。 
    [kjv]  And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew3 of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
    [bbe]  And Judah went up; and the Lord gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hands; and they overcame ten thousand of them in Bezek.
1:5 [hgb]  又 在 那 里 遇 见 亚 多 尼 比 色 , 与 他 争 战 , 杀 败 迦 南 人 和 比 利 洗 人 。 
    [kjv]  And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
    [bbe]  And they came across Adoni-zedek, and made war on him; and they overcame the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
1:6 [hgb]  亚 多 尼 比 色 逃 跑 。 他 们 追 赶 , 拿 住 他 , 砍 断 他 手 脚 的 大 姆 指 。 
    [kjv]  But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
    [bbe]  But Adoni-zedek went in flight; and they went after him and overtook him, and had his thumbs and his great toes cut off.
1:7 [hgb]  亚 多 尼 比 色 说 , 从 前 有 七 十 个 王 , 手 脚 的 大 姆 指 都 被 我 砍 断 , 在 我 桌 子 底 下 拾 取 零 碎 食 物 。 现 在 神 按 着 我 所 行 的 报 应 我 了 。 于 是 他 们 将 亚 多 尼 比 色 带 到 耶 路 撒 冷 , 他 就 死 在 那 里 。 
    [kjv]  And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their meat under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited4 me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.
    [bbe]  And Adoni-zedek said, Seventy kings, whose thumbs and great toes had been cut off, got broken meat under my table: as I have done, so has God done to me in full. And they took him to Jerusalem, and he came to his end there.
1:8 [hgb]  犹 大 人 攻 打 耶 路 撒 冷 , 将 城 攻 取 , 用 刀 杀 了 城 内 的 人 , 并 且 放 火 烧 城 。 
    [kjv]  Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten5 it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
    [bbe]  Then the children of Judah made an attack on Jerusalem, and took it, burning down the town after they had put its people to the sword without mercy.
1:9 [hgb]  后 来 犹 大 人 下 去 , 与 住 山 地 , 南 地 , 和 高 原 的 迦 南 人 争 战 。 
    [kjv]  And afterward6 the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.
    [bbe]  After that the children of Judah went down to make war on the Canaanites living in the hill-country and in the south and in the lowlands.
1:10 [hgb]  犹 大 人 去 攻 击 住 希 伯 仑 的 迦 南 人 , 杀 了 示 筛 , 亚 希 幔 , 挞 买 。 希 伯 仑 从 前 名 叫 基 列 亚 巴 。 
    [kjv]  And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
    [bbe]  And Caleb went against the Canaanites of Hebron: (now in earlier times Hebron was named Kiriath-arba:) and he put Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai to the sword.
1:11 [hgb]  他 们 从 那 里 去 攻 击 底 璧 的 居 民 。 底 璧 从 前 名 叫 基 列 西 弗 。 
    [kjv]  And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:
    [bbe]  And from there he went up against the people of Debir. (Now the name of Debir in earlier times was Kiriath-sepher.)
1:12 [hgb]  迦 勒 说 , 谁 能 攻 打 基 列 西 弗 , 将 城 夺 取 , 我 就 把 我 女 儿 押 撒 给 他 为 妻 。 
    [kjv]  And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
    [bbe]  And Caleb said, I will give Achsah, my daughter, as wife to the man who overcomes Kiriath-sepher and takes it.
1:13 [hgb]  迦 勒 兄 弟 基 纳 斯 的 儿 子 俄 陀 聂 夺 取 了 那 城 , 迦 勒 就 把 女 儿 押 撒 给 他 为 妻 。 
    [kjv]  And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
    [bbe]  And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; so he gave him his daughter Achsah for his wife.
1:14 [hgb]  押 撒 过 门 的 时 候 , 劝 丈 夫 向 她 父 亲 求 一 块 田 。 押 撒 一 下 驴 , 迦 勒 问 她 说 , 你 要 什 么 。 
    [kjv]  And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass1; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt7 thou?
    [bbe]  Now when she came to him, he put into her mind the idea of requesting a field from her father: and she got down from her ass; and Caleb said to her, What is it?
1:15 [hgb]  她 说 , 求 你 赐 福 给 我 , 你 既 将 我 安 置 在 南 地 , 求 你 也 给 我 水 泉 。 迦 勒 就 把 上 泉 下 泉 赐 给 她 。 
    [kjv]  And she said unto him, Give me a blessing8: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether9 springs.
    [bbe]  And she said to him, Give me a blessing; because you have put me in a dry south-land, now give me springs of water. So Caleb gave her the higher spring and the lower spring.
1:16 [hgb]  摩 西 的 内 兄 ( 或 作 岳 父 ) 是 基 尼 人 , 他 的 子 孙 与 犹 大 人 一 同 离 了 棕 树 城 , 往 亚 拉 得 以 南 的 犹 大 旷 野 去 , 就 住 在 民 中 。 
    [kjv]  And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness10 of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
    [bbe]  Now Hobab the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, had come up out of the town of palm-trees, with the children of Judah, into the waste land of Arad; and he went and was living among the Amalekites;
1:17 [hgb]  犹 大 和 他 哥 哥 西 缅 同 去 , 击 杀 了 住 洗 法 的 迦 南 人 , 将 城 尽 行 毁 灭 , 那 城 的 名 便 叫 何 珥 玛 。 
    [kjv]  And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly11 destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
    [bbe]  And Judah went with Simeon, his brother, and overcame the Canaanites living in Zephath, and put it under the curse; and he gave the town the name of Hormah.
1:18 [hgb]  犹 大 又 取 了 迦 萨 和 迦 萨 的 四 境 , 亚 实 基 伦 和 亚 实 基 伦 的 四 境 , 以 革 伦 和 以 革 伦 的 四 境 。 
    [kjv]  Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.
    [bbe]  Then Judah took Gaza and its limit, and Ashkelon and its limit, and Ekron and its limit.
1:19 [hgb]  耶 和 华 与 犹 大 同 在 , 犹 大 就 赶 出 山 地 的 居 民 , 只 是 不 能 赶 出 平 原 的 居 民 , 因 为 他 们 有 铁 车 。 
    [kjv]  And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
    [bbe]  And the Lord was with Judah; and he took the hill-country for his heritage; but he was unable to make the people of the valley go out, for they had war-carriages of iron.
1:20 [hgb]  以 色 列 人 照 摩 西 所 说 的 , 将 希 伯 仑 给 了 迦 勒 。 迦 勒 就 从 那 里 赶 出 亚 衲 族 的 三 个 族 长 。 
    [kjv]  And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.
    [bbe]  And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said; and he took the land of the three sons of Anak, driving them out from there.
1:21 [hgb]  便 雅 悯 人 没 有 赶 出 住 耶 路 撒 冷 的 耶 布 斯 人 。 耶 布 斯 人 仍 在 耶 路 撒 冷 与 便 雅 悯 人 同 住 , 直 到 今 日 。 
    [kjv]  And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
    [bbe]  And the children of Judah did not make the Jebusites who were living in Jerusalem go out; the Jebusites are still living with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem.
1:22 [hgb]  约 瑟 家 也 上 去 攻 打 伯 特 利 。 耶 和 华 与 他 们 同 在 。 
    [kjv]  And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.
    [bbe]  And the family of Joseph went up against Beth-el, and the Lord was with them.
1:23 [hgb]  约 瑟 家 打 发 人 去 窥 探 伯 特 利 。 那 城 起 先 名 叫 路 斯 。 
    [kjv]  And the house of Joseph sent to descry12 Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)
    [bbe]  So they sent men to make a search round Beth-el. (Now the name of the town in earlier times was Luz.)
1:24 [hgb]  窥 探 的 人 看 见 一 个 人 从 城 里 出 来 , 就 对 他 说 , 求 你 将 进 城 的 路 指 示 我 们 , 我 们 必 恩 待 你 。 
    [kjv]  And the spies saw a man come forth13 out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.
    [bbe]  And the watchers saw a man coming out of the town, and said to him, If you will make clear to us the way into the town, we will be kind to you.
1:25 [hgb]  那 人 将 进 城 的 路 指 示 他 们 , 他 们 就 用 刀 击 杀 了 城 中 的 居 民 , 但 将 那 人 和 他 全 家 放 去 。 
    [kjv]  And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote14 the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.
    [bbe]  So he made clear to them the way into the town, and they put it to the sword; but they let the man and all his family get away safe.
1:26 [hgb]  那 人 往 赫 人 之 地 去 , 筑 了 一 座 城 , 起 名 叫 路 斯 。 那 城 到 如 今 还 叫 这 名 。 
    [kjv]  And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.
    [bbe]  And he went into the land of the Hittites, building a town there and naming it Luz: which is its name to this day.
1:27 [hgb]  玛 拿 西 没 有 赶 出 伯 善 和 属 伯 善 乡 村 的 居 民 , 他 纳 和 属 他 纳 乡 村 的 居 民 , 多 珥 和 属 多 珥 乡 村 的 居 民 , 以 伯 莲 和 属 以 伯 莲 乡 村 的 居 民 , 米 吉 多 和 属 米 吉 多 乡 村 的 居 民 。 迦 南 人 却 执 意 住 在 那 些 地 方 。 
    [kjv]  Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
    [bbe]  And Manasseh did not take away the land of the people of Beth-shean and its daughter-towns, or of Taanach and its daughter-towns, or of the people of Dor and its daughter-towns, or of the people of Ibleam and its daughter-towns, or of the people of Megiddo and its daughter-towns, driving them out; but the Canaanites would go on living in that land.
1:28 [hgb]  及 至 以 色 列 强 盛 了 , 就 使 迦 南 人 作 苦 工 , 没 有 把 他 们 全 然 赶 出 。 
    [kjv]  And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
    [bbe]  And whenever Israel became strong, they put the Canaanites to forced work, without driving them out completely.
1:29 [hgb]  以 法 莲 没 有 赶 出 住 基 色 的 迦 南 人 。 于 是 迦 南 人 仍 住 在 基 色 , 在 以 法 莲 中 间 。 
    [kjv]  Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
    [bbe]  And Ephraim did not make the Canaanites who were living in Gezer go out; but the Canaanites went on living in Gezer among them.
1:30 [hgb]  西 布 伦 没 有 赶 出 基 伦 的 居 民 和 拿 哈 拉 的 居 民 。 于 是 迦 南 人 仍 住 在 西 布 伦 中 间 , 成 了 服 苦 的 人 。 
    [kjv]  Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries15.
    [bbe]  Zebulun did not make the people of Kitron or the people of Nahalol go out; but the Canaanites went on living among them and were put to forced work.
