[kjv] Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty1 man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.
[bbe] Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a great man of war; he was the son of a loose woman, and Gilead was his father.
11:2 [hgb] 基 列 的 妻 也 生 了 几 个 儿 子 ， 他 妻 所 生 的 儿 子 长 大 了 ， 就 赶 逐 耶 弗 他 ， 说 ， 你 不 可 在 我 们 父 家 承 受 产 业 ， 因 为 你 是 妓 女 的 儿 子 。
[kjv] And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman.
[bbe] And Gilead's wife gave birth to sons, and when her sons became men, they sent Jephthah away, saying, You have no part in the heritage of our father's house, for you are the son of another woman.
11:3 [hgb] 耶 弗 他 就 逃 避 他 的 弟 兄 ， 去 住 在 陀 伯 地 ， 有 些 匪 徒 到 他 那 里 聚 集 ， 与 他 一 同 出 入 。
[kjv] Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him.
[bbe] So Jephthah went in flight from his brothers and was living in the land of Tob, where a number of good-for-nothing men, joining Jephthah, went out with him on his undertakings2.
11:4 [hgb] 过 了 些 日 子 ， 亚 扪 人 攻 打 以 色 列 。
[kjv] And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
[bbe] Now after a time the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
11:5 [hgb] 亚 扪 人 攻 打 以 色 列 的 时 候 ， 基 列 的 长 老 到 陀 伯 地 去 ， 要 叫 耶 弗 他 回 来 。
[kjv] And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob:
[bbe] And when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the responsible men of Gilead went to get Jephthah back from the land of Tob;
11:6 [hgb] 对 耶 弗 他 说 ， 请 你 来 作 我 们 的 元 帅 ， 我 们 好 与 亚 扪 人 争 战 。
[kjv] And they said unto Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
[bbe] And they said to Jephthah, Come and be our chief so that we may make war against the children of Ammon.
11:7 [hgb] 耶 弗 他 回 答 基 列 的 长 老 说 ， 从 前 你 们 不 是 恨 我 ， 赶 逐 我 出 离 父 家 吗 ？ 现 在 你 们 遭 遇 急 难 为 何 到 我 这 里 来 呢 ？
[kjv] And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress3?
[bbe] But Jephthah said to the responsible men of Gilead, Did you not, in your hate for me, send me away from my father's house? Why do you come to me now when you are in trouble?
11:8 [hgb] 基 列 的 长 老 回 答 耶 弗 他 说 ， 现 在 我 们 到 你 这 里 来 ， 是 要 你 同 我 们 去 ， 与 亚 扪 人 争 战 。 你 可 以 作 基 列 一 切 居 民 的 领 袖 。
[kjv] And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
[bbe] And the responsible men of Gilead said to Jephthah, That is the reason we have come back to you; so go with us and make war against the children of Ammon, and we will make you our head over all the people of Gilead.
11:9 [hgb] 耶 弗 他 对 基 列 的 长 老 说 ， 你 们 叫 我 回 去 ， 与 亚 扪 人 争 战 ， 耶 和 华 把 他 交 给 我 ， 我 可 以 作 你 们 的 领 袖 吗 ？
[kjv] And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
[bbe] Then Jephthah said to the responsible men of Gilead, If you take me back to make war against the children of Ammon, and if with the help of the Lord I overcome them, will you make me your head?
11:10 [hgb] 基 列 的 长 老 回 答 耶 弗 他 说 ， 有 耶 和 华 在 你 我 中 间 作 见 证 ， 我 们 必 定 照 你 的 话 行 。
[kjv] And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words.
[bbe] And the responsible men of Gilead said to Jephthah, May the Lord be our witness: we will certainly do as you say.
11:11 [hgb] 于 是 耶 弗 他 同 基 列 的 长 老 回 去 ， 百 姓 就 立 耶 弗 他 作 领 袖 ， 作 元 帅 。 耶 弗 他 在 米 斯 巴 将 自 己 的 一 切 话 陈 明 在 耶 和 华 面 前 。
[kjv] Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.
[bbe] So Jephthah went with the responsible men of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them; and Jephthah said all these things before the Lord in Mizpah.
11:12 [hgb] 耶 弗 他 打 发 使 者 去 见 亚 扪 人 的 王 ， 说 ， 你 与 我 有 什 么 相 干 ， 竟 来 到 我 国 中 攻 打 我 呢 ？
[kjv] And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight in my land?
[bbe] Then Jephthah sent men to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What have you against me that you have come to make war against my land?
11:13 [hgb] 亚 扪 人 的 王 回 答 耶 弗 他 的 使 者 说 ， 因 为 以 色 列 人 从 埃 及 上 来 的 时 候 占 据 我 的 地 ， 从 亚 嫩 河 到 雅 博 河 ， 直 到 约 旦 河 。 现 在 你 要 好 好 地 将 这 地 归 还 吧 。
[kjv] And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.
[bbe] And the king of the children of Ammon said to the men sent by Jephthah, Because Israel, when he came up out of Egypt, took away my land, from the Arnon as far as the Jabbok and as far as Jordan: so now, give me back those lands quietly.
11:14 [hgb] 耶 弗 他 又 打 发 使 者 去 见 亚 扪 人 的 王 ，
[kjv] And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon:
[bbe] And Jephthah sent again to the king of the children of Ammon,
11:15 [hgb] 对 他 说 ， 耶 弗 他 如 此 说 ， 以 色 列 人 并 没 有 占 据 摩 押 地 和 亚 扪 人 的 地 。
[kjv] And said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:
[bbe] And said to him, This is the word of Jephthah: Israel did not take away the land of Moab or the land of the children of Ammon;
11:16 [hgb] 以 色 列 人 从 埃 及 上 来 乃 是 经 过 旷 野 到 红 海 ， 来 到 加 低 斯 ，
[kjv] But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness4 unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;
[bbe] But when they came up from Egypt, Israel went through the waste land to the Red Sea and came to Kadesh;
11:17 [hgb] 就 打 发 使 者 去 见 以 东 王 ， 说 ， 求 你 容 我 从 你 的 地 经 过 。 以 东 王 却 不 应 允 。 又 照 样 打 发 使 者 去 见 摩 押 王 ， 他 也 不 允 准 。 以 色 列 人 就 住 在 加 低 斯 。
[kjv] Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode5 in Kadesh.
[bbe] Then Israel sent men to the king of Edom saying, Let me now go through your land; but the king of Edom did not give ear to them. And in the same way he sent to the king of Moab, but he would not; so Israel went on living in Kadesh.
11:18 [hgb] 他 们 又 经 过 旷 野 ， 绕 着 以 东 和 摩 押 地 ， 从 摩 押 地 的 东 边 过 来 ， 在 亚 嫩 河 边 安 营 ， 并 没 有 入 摩 押 的 境 内 ， 因 为 亚 嫩 河 是 摩 押 的 边 界 。
[kjv] Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.
[bbe] Then he went on through the waste land and round the land of Edom and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and put up their tents on the other side of the Arnon; they did not come inside the limit of Moab, for the Arnon was the limit of Moab.
11:19 [hgb] 以 色 列 人 打 发 使 者 去 见 亚 摩 利 王 西 宏 ， 就 是 希 实 本 的 王 ， 对 他 说 ， 求 你 容 我 们 从 你 的 地 经 过 ， 往 我 们 自 己 的 地 方 去 。
[kjv] And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place.
[bbe] And Israel sent men to Sihon, king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, Let me now go through your land to my place.
11:20 [hgb] 西 宏 却 不 信 服 以 色 列 人 ， 不 容 他 们 经 过 他 的 境 界 ， 乃 招 聚 他 的 众 民 在 雅 杂 安 营 ， 与 以 色 列 人 争 战 。
[kjv] But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
[bbe] But Sihon would not give way and let Israel go through his land; and Sihon got together all his people, and put his army in position in Jahaz, and made war on Israel.
11:21 [hgb] 耶 和 华 以 色 列 的 神 将 西 宏 和 他 的 众 民 都 交 在 以 色 列 人 手 中 ， 以 色 列 人 就 击 杀 他 们 ， 得 了 亚 摩 利 人 的 全 地 ，
[kjv] And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote6 them: so Israel possessed7 all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
[bbe] And the Lord, the God of Israel, gave Sihon and all his people into the hands of Israel, and they overcame them; so all the land of the Amorites, the people of that land, became Israel's.
11:22 [hgb] 从 亚 嫩 河 到 雅 博 河 ， 从 旷 野 直 到 约 旦 河 。
[kjv] And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan.
[bbe] All the limit of the Amorites was theirs, from the Arnon as far as the Jabbok and from the waste land even to Jordan.
11:23 [hgb] 耶 和 华 以 色 列 的 神 在 他 百 姓 以 色 列 面 前 赶 出 亚 摩 利 人 ， 你 竟 要 得 他 们 的 地 吗 ？
[kjv] So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?
[bbe] So now the Lord, the God of Israel, has taken away their land from the Amorites and given it to his people Israel; are you then to have it?
11:24 [hgb] 你 的 神 基 抹 所 赐 你 的 地 你 不 是 得 为 业 吗 ？ 耶 和 华 我 们 的 神 在 我 们 面 前 所 赶 出 的 人 ， 我 们 就 得 他 的 地 。
[kjv] Wilt8 not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.
[bbe] Do you not keep the lands of those whom Chemosh your god sends out from before you? So we will keep all the lands of those whom the Lord our God sends out from before us.
11:25 [hgb] 难 道 你 比 摩 押 王 西 拨 的 儿 子 巴 勒 还 强 吗 ？ 他 曾 与 以 色 列 人 争 竞 ， 或 是 与 他 们 争 战 吗 ？
[kjv] And now art thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,
[bbe] What! are you any better than Balak, the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever take up a cause against Israel or make war against them?
11:26 [hgb] 以 色 列 人 住 希 实 本 和 属 希 实 本 的 乡 村 ， 亚 罗 珥 和 属 亚 罗 珥 的 乡 村 ， 并 沿 亚 嫩 河 的 一 切 城 邑 ， 已 经 有 三 百 年 了 。 在 这 三 百 年 之 内 ， 你 们 为 什 么 没 有 取 回 这 些 地 方 呢 ？
[kjv] While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover them within that time?
[bbe] While Israel was living in Heshbon and its daughter-towns and in Aroer and its daughter-towns and in all the towns which are by the side of the Arnon, for three hundred years, why did you not get them back at that time?
11:27 [hgb] 原 来 我 没 有 得 罪 你 ， 你 却 攻 打 我 ， 恶 待 我 。 愿 审 判 人 的 耶 和 华 今 日 在 以 色 列 人 和 亚 扪 人 中 间 判 断 是 非 。
[kjv] Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.
[bbe] So I have done no wrong against you, but you are doing wrong to me in fighting against me: may the Lord, who is Judge this day, be judge between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.
11:28 [hgb] 但 亚 扪 人 的 王 不 肯 听 耶 弗 他 打 发 人 说 的 话 。
[kjv] Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.
[bbe] The king of the children of Ammon, however, did not give ear to the words which Jephthah sent to him.
11:29 [hgb] 耶 和 华 的 灵 降 在 耶 弗 他 身 上 ， 他 就 经 过 基 列 和 玛 拿 西 ， 来 到 基 列 的 米 斯 巴 ， 又 从 米 斯 巴 来 到 亚 扪 人 那 里 。
[kjv] Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.
[bbe] Then the spirit of the Lord came on Jephthah, and he went through Gilead and Manasseh, and came to Mizpeh of Gilead; and from Mizpeh of Gilead he went over to the children of Ammon.
11:30 [hgb] 耶 弗 他 就 向 耶 和 华 许 愿 ， 说 ， 你 若 将 亚 扪 人 交 在 我 手 中 ，
[kjv] And Jephthah vowed9 a vow10 unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,
[bbe] And Jephthah took an oath to the Lord, and said, If you will give the children of Ammon into my hands,
11:31 [hgb] 我 从 亚 扪 人 那 里 平 平 安 安 回 来 的 时 候 ， 无 论 什 么 人 ， 先 从 我 家 门 出 来 迎 接 我 ， 就 必 归 你 ， 我 也 必 将 他 献 上 为 燔 祭 。
[kjv] Then it shall be, that whatsoever11 cometh forth12 of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.
[bbe] Then whoever comes out from the door of my house, meeting me when I come back in peace from the children of Ammon, will be the Lord's and I will give him as a burned offering.
11:32 [hgb] 于 是 耶 弗 他 往 亚 扪 人 那 里 去 ， 与 他 们 争 战 。 耶 和 华 将 他 们 交 在 他 手 中 ，
[kjv] So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.
[bbe] So Jephthah went over to the children of Ammon to make war on them; and the Lord gave them into his hands.
11:33 [hgb] 他 就 大 大 杀 败 他 们 ， 从 亚 罗 珥 到 米 匿 ， 直 到 亚 备 勒 基 拉 明 ， 攻 取 了 二 十 座 城 。 这 样 亚 扪 人 就 被 以 色 列 人 制 伏 了 。
[kjv] And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter13. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued14 before the children of Israel.
[bbe] And he made an attack on them from Aroer all the way to Minnith, overrunning twenty towns, as far as Abel-cheramim, and put great numbers to the sword. So the children of Ammon were crushed before the children of Israel.
11:34 [hgb] 耶 弗 他 回 米 斯 巴 到 了 自 己 的 家 ， 不 料 ， 他 女 儿 拿 着 鼓 跳 舞 出 来 迎 接 他 ， 是 他 独 生 的 ， 此 外 无 儿 无 女 。
[kjv] And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold15, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.
[bbe] Then Jephthah came back to his house in Mizpah, and his daughter came out, meeting him on his way with music and with dances; she was his only child; he had no other sons or daughters.
11:35 [hgb] 耶 弗 他 看 见 她 ， 就 撕 裂 衣 服 ， 说 ， 哀 哉 。 我 的 女 儿 阿 ， 你 使 我 甚 是 愁 苦 ， 叫 我 作 难 了 。 因 为 我 已 经 向 耶 和 华 开 口 许 愿 ， 不 能 挽 回 。
[kjv] And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas16, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.
[bbe] And when he saw her he was overcome with grief, and said, Ah! my daughter! I am crushed with sorrow, and it is you who are the chief cause of my trouble; for I have made an oath to the Lord and I may not take it back.
11:36 [hgb] 他 女 儿 回 答 说 ， 父 阿 ， 你 既 向 耶 和 华 开 口 ， 就 当 照 你 口 中 所 说 的 向 我 行 ， 因 耶 和 华 已 经 在 仇 敌 亚 扪 人 身 上 为 你 报 仇 。
[kjv] And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance17 for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon.
[bbe] And she said to him, My father, you have made an oath to the Lord; do then to me whatever you have said; for the Lord has sent a full reward on your haters, on the children of Ammon.
11:37 [hgb] 又 对 父 亲 说 ， 有 一 件 事 求 你 允 准 ， 容 我 去 两 个 月 ， 与 同 伴 在 山 上 ， 好 哀 哭 我 终 为 处 女 。
[kjv] And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows.
[bbe] Then she said to her father, Only do this for me: let me have two months to go away into the mountains with my friends, weeping for my sad fate.
11:38 [hgb] 耶 弗 他 说 ， 你 去 吧 。 就 容 她 去 两 个 月 。 她 便 和 同 伴 去 了 ， 在 山 上 为 她 终 为 处 女 哀 哭 。
[kjv] And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.
[bbe] And he said, Go then. So he sent her away for two months; and she went with her friends to the mountains, weeping for her sad fate.
11:39 [hgb] 两 月 已 满 ， 她 回 到 父 亲 那 里 ， 父 亲 就 照 所 许 的 愿 向 她 行 了 。 女 儿 终 身 没 有 亲 近 男 子 。
[kjv] And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,
[bbe] And at the end of two months she went back to her father, who did with her as he had said in his oath: and she had never been touched by a man. So it became a rule in Israel,
11:40 [hgb] 此 后 以 色 列 中 有 个 规 矩 ， 每 年 以 色 列 的 女 子 去 为 基 列 人 耶 弗 他 的 女 儿 哀 哭 四 天 。
[kjv] That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament18 the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
[bbe] For the women to go year by year sorrowing for the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite, four days in every year.
