Chapter 28

28:1 [hgb]  银 子 有 矿 ， 炼 金 有 方 。
    [kjv]  Surely there is a vein¹ for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.
    [bbe]  Truly there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is washed out.
28:2 [hgb]  铁 从 地 里 挖 出 ， 铜 从 石 中 熔 化 。
    [kjv]  Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass² is molten out of the stone.
    [bbe]  Iron is taken out of the earth, and stone is changed into brass by the fire.
28:3 [hgb]  人 为 黑 暗 定 界 限 ， 查 究 幽 暗 阴 翳 的 石 头 ， 直 到 极 处 。
    [kjv]  He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
    [bbe]  Man puts an end to the dark, searching out to the farthest limit the stones of the deep places of the dark.
28:4 [hgb]  在 无 人 居 住 之 处 刨 开 矿 穴 ， 过 路 的 人 也 想 不 到 他 们 。 又 与 人 远 离 ， 悬 在 空 中 摇 来 摇 去 。
    [kjv]  The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
    [bbe]  He makes a deep mine far away from those living in the light of day; when they go about on the earth, they have no knowledge of those who are under them, who are hanging far from men, twisting from side to side on a cord.
28:5 [hgb]  至 于 地 ， 能 出 粮 食 ， 地 内 好 像 被 火 翻 起 来 。
    [kjv]  As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
    [bbe]  As for the earth, bread comes out of it; but under its face it is turned up as if by fire.
28:6 [hgb]  地 中 的 石 头 有 蓝 宝 石 ， 并 有 金 沙 。
    [kjv]  The stones of it are the place of sapphires⁴: and it hath dust of gold.
    [bbe]  Its stones are the place of sapphires, and it has dust of gold.
28:7 [hgb]  矿 中 的 路 鸷 鸟 不 得 知 道 ， 鹰 眼 也 未 见 过 。
    [kjv]  There is a path which no fowl⁵ knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen:
    [bbe]  No bird has knowledge of it, and the hawk's eye has never seen it.
28:8 [hgb]  狂 傲 的 野 兽 未 曾 行 过 。 猛 烈 的 狮 子 也 未 曾 经 过 。
    [kjv]  The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
    [bbe]  The great beasts have not gone over it, and the cruel lion has not taken that way.
28:9 [hgb]  人 伸 手 凿 开 坚 石 ， 倾 倒 山 根 。
    [kjv]  He putteth forth⁶ his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
    [bbe]  Man puts out his hand on the hard rock, overturning mountains by the roots.
28:10 [hgb]  在 磐 石 中 凿 出 水 道 ， 亲 眼 看 见 各 样 宝 物 。
    [kjv]  He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
    [bbe]  He makes deep ways, cut through the rock, and his eye sees everything of value.
28:11 [hgb]  他 封 闭 水 不 得 滴 流 ， 使 隐 藏 的 物 显 露 出 来 。
    [kjv]  He bindeth the floods from overflowing⁷; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
    [bbe]  He keeps back the streams from flowing, and makes the secret things come out into the light.
28:12 [hgb]  然 而 ， 智 慧 有 何 处 可 寻 ？ 聪 明 之 处 在 哪 里 呢 ？
    [kjv]  But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
    [bbe]  But where may wisdom be seen? and where is the resting-place of knowledge?
28:13 [hgb]  智 慧 的 价 值 无 人 能 知 ， 在 活 人 之 地 也 无 处 可 寻 。
    [kjv]  Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
    [bbe]  Man has not seen the way to it, and it is not in the land of the living.
28:14 [hgb]  深 渊 说 ， 不 在 我 内 。 沧 海 说 ， 不 在 我 中 。
    [kjv]  The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
    [bbe]  The deep waters say, It is not in me: and the sea says, It is not with me.
28:15 [hgb]  智 慧 非 用 黄 金 可 得 ， 也 不 能 平 白 银 为 它 的 价 值 。
    [kjv]  It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
    [bbe]  Gold may not be given for it, or a weight of silver in payment for it.
28:16 [hgb]  俄 斐 金 ， 和 贵 重 的 红 玛 瑙 ， 并 蓝 宝 石 ， 不 足 与 较 量 。
    [kjv]  It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire³.
    [bbe]  It may not be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the onyx of great price, or the sapphire.
28:17 [hgb]  黄 金 ， 和 玻 璃 ， 不 足 与 比 较 。 精 金 的 器 皿 ， 不 足 与 兑 换 。
    [kjv]  The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
    [bbe]  Gold and glass are not equal to it in price, and it may not be exchanged for jewels of the best gold.
28:18 [hgb]  珊 瑚 ， 水 晶 都 不 足 论 。 智 慧 的 价 值 胜 过 珍 珠 （ 或 作 红 宝 石 ） 。
    [kjv]  No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies⁸.
    [bbe]  There is no need to say anything about coral or crystal; and the value of wisdom is greater than that of pearls.
28:19 [hgb]  古 实 的 红 璧 玺 ， 不 足 与 比 较 。 精 金 ， 也 不 足 与 较 量 。
    [kjv]  The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
    [bbe]  The topaz of Ethiopia is not equal to it, and it may not be valued with the best gold.
28:20 [hgb]  智 慧 从 何 处 来 呢 ？ 聪 明 之 处 在 哪 里 呢 ？
    [kjv]  Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
    [bbe]  From where then does wisdom come, and where is the resting-place of knowledge?
28:21 [hgb]  是 向 一 切 有 生 命 的 眼 目 隐 藏 ， 向 空 中 的 飞 鸟 掩 蔽 。
    [kjv]  Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls⁹ of the air.
    [bbe]  For it is kept secret from the eyes of all living, unseen by the birds of the air.
28:22 [hgb]  灭 没 和 死 亡 说 ， 我 们 风 闻 其 名 。
    [kjv]  Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
    [bbe]  Destruction and Death say, We have only had word of it with our ears.
28:23 [hgb]  神 明 白 智 慧 的 道 路 ， 晓 得 智 慧 的 所 在 。
    [kjv]  God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
    [bbe]  God has knowledge of the way to it, and of its resting-place;
28:24 [hgb]  因 他 鉴 察 直 到 地 极 ， 遍 观 普 天 之 下 。
    [kjv]  For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
    [bbe]  For his eyes go to the ends of the earth, and he sees everything under heaven.
28:25 [hgb]  要 为 风 定 轻 重 ， 又 度 量 诸 水 。
    [kjv]  To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
    [bbe]  When he made a weight for the wind, measuring out the waters;
28:26 [hgb]  他 为 雨 露 定 命 令 ， 为 雷 电 定 道 路 。
    [kjv]  When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
    [bbe]  When he made a law for the rain, and a way for the thunder-flames;
28:27 [hgb]  那 时 他 看 见 智 慧 ， 而 且 述 说 。 他 坚 定 ， 并 且 查 究 。
    [kjv]  Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
    [bbe]  Then he saw it, and put it on record; he gave it its fixed¹⁰ form, searching it out completely.
28:28 [hgb]  他 对 人 说 ， 敬 畏 主 就 是 智 慧 。 远 离 恶 便 是 聪 明 。
    [kjv]  And unto man he said, Behold¹¹, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
    [bbe]  And he said to man, Truly the fear of the Lord is wisdom, and to keep from evil is the way to knowledge.

1 vein
