[kjv]  But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold2, thy disciples do that which is not lawful3 to do upon the sabbath day.
[bbe]  But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said to him, See, your disciples do that which it is not right to do on the Sabbath.

[bbe]  But he said to them, Have you no knowledge of what David did when he had need of food, and those who were with him?
[kjv]  How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
[bbe]  How he went into the house of God and took for food the holy bread which it was not right for him or for those who were with him to take, but only for the priests?
[kjv]  Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane4 the sabbath, and are blameless?
[bbe]  Or is it not said in the law, how the Sabbath is broken by the priests in the Temple and they do no wrong?
[kjv]  But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
[bbe]  But I say to you that a greater thing than the Temple is here.
[kjv]  But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned5 the guiltless.

[kjv]  And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
[bbe]  And he said to them, Which of you, having a sheep, if it gets into a hole on the Sabbath day, will not put out a helping8 hand and get it back?
[kjv]  How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
[bbe]  Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! For this reason it is right to do good on the Sabbath day.
