[kjv] For a bishop3 must be blameless, as the steward4 of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy5 lucre6;
[bbe] For it is necessary for a Bishop to be a man of virtue7, as God's servant; not pushing himself forward, not quickly moved to wrath8 or blows, not desiring profit for himself;
1:8 [hgb] 乐 意 接 待 远 人 , 好 善 , 庄 重 , 公 平 , 圣 洁 , 自 持 。
[kjv] But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate9;
[bbe] But opening his house freely to guests; a lover of what is good, serious-minded, upright, holy, self-controlled;
1:9 [hgb] 坚 守 所 教 真 实 的 道 理 , 就 能 将 纯 正 的 教 训 劝 化 人 。 又 能 把 争 辩 的 人 驳 倒 了 。
[kjv] Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine10 both to exhort11 and to convince the gainsayers.
[bbe] Keeping to the true word of the teaching, so that he may be able to give comfort by right teaching and overcome the arguments of the doubters.
1:10 [hgb] 因 为 有 许 多 人 不 服 约 束 , 说 虚 空 话 , 欺 哄 人 。 那 奉 割 礼 的 , 更 是 这 样 。
[kjv] For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially12 they of the circumcision:
[bbe] For there are men who are not ruled by law; foolish talkers, false teachers, specially those of the circumcision,
1:11 [hgb] 这 些 人 的 口 总 要 堵 住 。 他 们 因 贪 不 义 之 财 , 将 不 该 教 导 的 教 导 人 , 败 坏 人 的 全 家 。
[kjv] Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert13 whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
[bbe] By whom some families have been completely overturned; who take money for teaching things which are not right; these will have to be stopped.
1:12 [hgb] 有 革 哩 底 人 中 的 一 个 本 地 先 知 说 , 革 哩 底 人 常 说 谎 话 , 乃 是 恶 兽 , 又 馋 又 懒 。
[kjv] One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars14, evil beasts, slow bellies15.
[bbe] One of their prophets has said, The men of Crete are ever false, evil beasts, lovers of food, hating work.
1:13 [hgb] 这 个 见 证 是 真 的 。 所 以 你 要 严 严 地 责 备 他 们 , 使 他 们 在 真 道 上 纯 全 无 疵 。
[kjv] This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke16 them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
[bbe] This witness is true. So say sharp words to them so that they may come to the right faith,
1:14 [hgb] 不 听 犹 太 人 荒 渺 的 言 语 , 和 离 弃 真 道 之 人 的 诫 命 。
[kjv] Not giving heed17 to Jewish fables18, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
[bbe] Giving no attention to the fictions of the Jews and the rules of men who have no true knowledge.
1:15 [hgb] 在 洁 净 的 人 , 凡 物 都 洁 净 。 在 污 秽 不 信 的 人 , 什 么 都 不 洁 净 。 连 心 地 和 天 良 , 也 都 污 秽 了 。
[kjv] Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled19 and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
[bbe] To the clean in heart all things are clean: but to those who are unclean and without faith nothing is clean; they become unclean in mind and in thought.
1:16 [hgb] 他 们 说 是 认 识 神 行 事 却 和 他 相 背 。 本 是 可 憎 恶 的 , 是 悖 逆 的 , 在 各 样 善 事 上 是 可 废 弃 的 。
