[kjv]  Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[bbe]  And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
[kjv]  Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land.
[bbe]  And you, son of man, say, This is what the Lord has said to the land of Israel: An end has come, the end has come on the four quarters of the land.
[kjv]  Now is the end come upon thee, and I will send mine anger upon thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways, and will recompense upon thee all thine abominations.
[bbe]  Now the end has come on you, and I will send my wrath1 on you, judging you for your ways, I will send punishment on you for all your disgusting acts.
[kjv]  And mine eye shall not spare thee, neither will I have pity: but I will recompense thy ways upon thee, and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
[bbe]  My eye will not have mercy on you, and I will have no pity: but I will send the punishment of your ways on you, and your disgusting works will be among you: and you will be certain that I am the Lord.
[kjv]  Thus saith the Lord GOD; An evil, an only evil, behold2, is come.
[bbe]  This is what the Lord has said: An evil, even one evil; see, it is coming.
[kjv]  An end is come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come.
[bbe]  An end has come, the end has come; see, it is coming on you.
[kjv]  The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble is near, and not the sounding again of the mountains.
[bbe]  The crowning time has come on you, O people of the land: the time has come, the day is near; the day will not be slow in coming, it will not keep back.
[kjv]  Now will I shortly pour out my fury upon thee, and accomplish mine anger upon thee: and I will judge thee according to thy ways, and will recompense thee for all thine abominations.
[bbe]  Now, in a little time, I will let loose my passion on you, and give full effect to my wrath against you, judging you for your ways, and sending punishment on you for all your disgusting works.
[kjv]  And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the LORD that smiteth.
[bbe]  My eye will not have mercy, and I will have no pity: I will send on you the punishment of your ways, and your disgusting works will be among you; and you will see that I am the Lord who gives punishment.
[kjv]  Behold the day, behold, it is come: the morning is gone forth3; the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded.
[bbe]  See, the day; see, it is coming: the crowning time has gone out; the twisted way is flowering, pride has put out buds.
[kjv]  Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of any of theirs: neither shall there be wailing4 for them.
[bbe]  Violent behaviour has been lifted up into a rod of evil; it will not be slow in coming, it will not keep back.
[kjv]  The time is come, the day draweth near: let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn: for wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.
[bbe]  The time has come, the day is near: let not him who gives a price for goods be glad, or him who gets the price have sorrow:
[kjv]  For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they were yet alive: for the vision is touching5 the whole multitude thereof, which shall not return; neither shall any strengthen himself in the iniquity6 of his life.
[bbe]  For the trader will not go back to the things for which he had his price, even while he is still living:
[kjv]  They have blown the trumpet7, even to make all ready; but none goeth to the battle: for my wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.
[bbe]  And he who has given a price for goods will not get them, for my wrath is on all of them.
[kjv]  The sword is without, and the pestilence8 and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour9 him.
[bbe]  Outside is the sword, and inside disease and need of food: he who is in the open country will be put to the sword; he who is in the town will come to his end through need of food and disease.
[kjv]  But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity.
[bbe]  And those of them who get away safely will go and be in the secret places like the doves of the valleys, all of them will come to death, every one in his sin.
[kjv]  All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak as water.
[bbe]  All hands will be feeble and all knees without strength, like water.
[kjv]  They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads.
[bbe]  And they will put haircloth round them, and deep fear will be covering them; and shame will be on all faces, and the hair gone from all their heads.
[kjv]  They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels10: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.
[bbe]  They will put out their silver into the streets, and their gold will be as an unclean thing; their silver and their gold will not be able to keep them safe in the day of the wrath of the Lord; they will not get their desire or have food for their need: because it has been the cause of their falling into sin.
[kjv]  As for the beauty of his ornament11, he set it in majesty12: but they made the images of their abominations and of their detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them.
[bbe]  As for their beautiful ornament, they had put it on high, and had made the images of their disgusting and hated things in it: for this cause I have made it an unclean thing to them.
[kjv]  And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey13, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall pollute it.
[bbe]  And I will give it into the hands of men from strange lands who will take it by force, and to the evil-doers of the earth to have for themselves; and they will make it unholy.
[kjv]  My face will I turn also from them, and they shall pollute my secret place: for the robbers shall enter into it, and defile14 it.
[bbe]  And my face will be turned away from them, and they will make my secret place unholy: violent men will go into it and make it unholy.
[kjv]  Make a chain: for the land is full of bloody15 crimes, and the city is full of violence.
[bbe]  Make the chain: for the land is full of crimes of blood, and the town is full of violent acts.
[kjv]  Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be defiled16.
[bbe]  For this reason I will send the worst of the nations and they will take their houses for themselves: I will make the pride of their strength come to an end; and their holy places will be made unclean.
[kjv]  Destruction cometh; and they shall seek peace, and there shall be none.
[bbe]  Shaking fear is coming; and they will be looking for peace, and there will be no peace.
[kjv]  Mischief17 shall come upon mischief, and rumour18 shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.
[bbe]  Destruction will come on destruction, and one story after another; and the vision of the prophet will be shamed, and knowledge of the law will come to an end among the priests, and wisdom among the old.
[kjv]  The king shall mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
[bbe]  The king will give himself up to sorrow, and the ruler will be clothed with wonder, and the hands of the people of the land will be troubled: I will give them punishment for their ways, judging them as it is right for them to be judged; and they will be certain that I am the Lord.
